When I was 11 I was on a family holiday to the IOW in 1981, seeing all those scooters riding with tents and sleeping bags, left a massive impression on me . I said to my mum when I’m older I’m getting one, which she replied no way. 2 weeks before my 16th birthday I pushed home a 100 super sports Vespa which was registered as a 50 . Then had 10 years of different models of Vespas and lambrettas and scooter rally’s brilliant. Then came the kids.Cheers lads
i used to love camber , the place is a sh**hole , but thats wot was good , ride down with my pals , get on it , meet all the people you know in the soul room , knew the DJs ....... play up the whole weekend , pretend i was 17-18 again , ride home sunday , go to work Monday feeling like someone had hit me on the head with a shovel .......... brilliant, and then do it again the next week .
i was there.....all the way from australia with my mate pete we were with the notts brittania for that one and morecambe a few weeks before, they were running nights in one of the pubs on the front, first night was so chaotic that the landlord left us to run the bar in the bandroom/disco....feckin' idiot, we ( and some helpful crowd members) drank the place dry and emptied the till one day if i ever work out how, i'll get the video we shot that weekend converted to digital and put it up on here met a load of other clubs too, junction 13, kent brittania are a couple of them i remember some twunt stole me leather jacket on the sunday night and i nearly got arrested trying to convince a copper to search the whole town for it....thanks for the rescue there pete got me a hangover that lasted 3 days too seriously silly fun, still got the denim cutoff with al;l the patches from that holiday but gave up scooters later that year after yet another nasty accident, still ride bikes but the copuple of times i've had a quick ride on a scooter since have just scared the crap out of me
Everyone in this class is dancing and smiling and that's all that matters. It doesn't matter how good the teacher is, if they're not having fun, they're not coming back. And these guys are having fun. I wish I'd been there! Well taught lass!
While I'm all for people learning to dance, you need a certain amount of rhythm and passion. It also helps if the track you are dancing to makes your heart pound louder than a drum. That's something you can't teach. Great idea for beginners though or even just a bit of exercise
Would love to learn this dance....love to go to some nites out enjoying dancing away..💕💕 Any on the Wirral..Merseyside..??? Thanks..Watched a few nites out these ..Looked fab..xx
Awesome video, crappy campsite - can't remember if that was the year with the flaming Ford Escort? Ninjas my arse. Hope your kids grew up happy & strong. Peace xx
Ciaran Rosner they are now 31 & 29. They both attend at least 5 or 6 rallies a year and have done since they were born (and also their younger sister) The eldest now has 2 children of her own and brings them to rallies too (the next one being Sandford) I have been doing rallies since 1981 and still going strong and still in the Aldershot A5 Scooter Club 😊
I used to work as road crew for Edwin Starr at this time, I remember this gig (the i o w scooter jam)being a quite heavy scene, never knew if you were going to have a crowd who were well into their soul and would be cool and have a ball or a crowd full of n f skins waiting for screwdriver to come on and thus spend the entire gig fighting blokes to try stop em getting on stage, and throwing shit at the band as I say I was a festival head anyway so enjoyed one aspect but also the air of menace was always there
luke coughlan - hah, Lukie, yeah that was it, Funny rally, for all sorts of reasons. Li 750 with no end-can overtaken by a tractor, Too funny. All the best bro.
Don't wanna be negative about This but the only person that can teach you to dance to this music is the person who taught us all in the 60's 70's....."Yourself".....just try to feel the music and the beat the rest will just happen and youll get your own style cos there is no fixed style anyway.......Watch and learn and try.....but if doing this gives you confidence to get up do it.....It will keep the music alive.....and remember dance as if no-ones watching .....lol
+deraud46 Not everyone learns the same way. Some people "feel" it, imitate and learn, but others - despite loving the music - need to be taught the steps, and then it suddenly clicks and from there they can feel their way to their own style. Don't knock the learning process. Every person is different :) Any class that helps spread the love of music and dance is alright by me.
+Craig Jones The best way to learn is to get out there & join in, its the way most of us learnt & seriously you can't really go wrong,it will all fall into place eventually. Find a soul night & go & have fun, you'll enjoy it.
Back in the day I had all the right moves, 1000s of sort after tunes (all original ) brilliant clobber, a stunning girlfriend but deep down inside I really wanted to be a div... Now I can have lessons :)
Any dance classes for older people in Northants or near area?Loved Northern Soul all my life and would really like to learn to dance properly before it's too late!!!!
Depressing and more than a little disturbing. Go to Soul Night ,feel the music, move your feet and don't give a toss about what anyone else thinks. The rest comes naturally. Oh and don't worry about diving around like a mentalist, a 360 degree spin is plenty when you're past 50. Also, based on this video, appropriate footwear is a MUST.
Paddy The Red Dog You're right re feeling the music, very true - but at least they're still giving it a go at classes, so hats off to 'em I say! It's a good start for some people and also a confidence builder, 'specially for anyone who hasn't danced for a while. A good point about the shoes though & you made me laugh about the diving around. I was contemplating learning that, but want to preserve my back!...: )
