This is dynamite information sir. Love from a touring cyclist currently weighing up a new drive chain. PS Pro budget tip...get Sensah Quantum 10 speed shifters instead of pricier Tiagra ones ...great quality and fully Tiagra 4700 compatible.

Thanks for the info packed vid. Caught my attention at a time when I’m starting to worry if I’ll have to start babying my mechanical components for the perceivable future. I have a typical 6800 TCR for roadie rides, but for everything else, I have a bike that runs R5800 on 46-34 front and 11-42 XT rear end through Tanpan. It got me up all the hills and towing a baby trailer as well. Would be a sad day when the components begin to fail.

I have a rapid rise derailleur. When I tried setting the index according to everyone's instructions, everything went to heck. After many frustrating hours I discovered that I had a rapid rise derailleur. Now the question is, indexing? How do I set it up. Let's say I'm starting from scratch. What gear should the bike be in, should I turn the barrel nut adjuster all the way in, creating as much slack as possible, then finger tighten the cable and set the pinch nut? This for my wee brain, is just too hard for me to understand, because everyone had me doing it backwards until my gears did not shift at all. It was like a brick. And I was like WTF???? I was sooooo confused. Well I did end up getting it all to work, but I do not understand the actual mechanics behind setting the barrel adjuster and then the pinch nut. If you could explain what the goal is, rather than just stating what direction to turn things in, it would be soooooooooooo appreciated!

Fair enough! But of course Brompton bikes were originally intended for urban environments not grassy spaces and dirt as you know. So not sure where this new model fits in. For city riding I would stay with the standard Brompton. There are plenty of other bikes for gravel and dirt surfaces but they don’t fold. So if you want a bike that folds and is mediocre at everything then maybe this is the bike for you. Bottom line is we are moving toward a world in which we’ll need a speciality bike for every situation-one for the bus, train, plane, subway, car, SUV, you name it!

Are there any options for 10-52 11 speed cassettes? Thats a reason to go 12spd otherwise. So if you are going 12 speed you just need the shifter mod, not the derailleur mod?

@@PathLessPedaledTV Thanks a lot. Currently I have SRAM 3x10 GX derailleur and front derailleur with SRAM aero TT500 bar end shifters. Due to defect of the shifters, I want to change to Dia Compe bar end shifters. Which one can I use. There are different versions: Dia-Compe Bar End Shifters Gran Compe Dia-Compe SILVER Bar End Shifters Dia-Compe Ene bar end 11-Fach right side Which are fitting and fullfilling my needs? I have read somewhere, that SRAM would not work, because the diameter is not large enough at Dia-Compe to move the cable long enough...!??? Thanks a lot.

Awesome video and thx for the information. Thinking about upgrading my gravel/touring bike with Sword. Do you think the following combination will work? New: Microshift Sword Levers Microshift Sword Rear Derailleur Components already installed: Sunrace 11-40 with Wolf Tooth Roadlink 3x10 Deore crank converted to 2x10 with 26/36 (--> maybe change to 26/40) XT 3x10 front derailleur limited to work with the 2x (could be swapped for the microshift derailleur)

Fun fact: The complete gear ratio of the bike used here is faster downhill than roadbikes with 9-speed cassettes around 20 years ago. When assuming the much wider and bigger gravel tires (2inches/50-622/700x50c) the complete ratio of 46-11 is faster than the 52-12 that was used on roadbikes with triple chainrings, 9 speed cassette and 700x25c tires. Even when upgrading the old roadbike with wider cyclocross tires the gear ratio is still slower than a modern gravel bike with 46-11. The width of a modern gravel tire makes a huge difference. For every inch (25mm) the tire gets wider (and therefore a little bit larger in diameter) we need to downsize the front chainrings by around 3 or 4 teeth. :-)

Shimano DI2 should be priced at most 1/4 of its price. Imagine that it is more expensive than smartphones. It is even more absurd than the guitar pedal industry which is full of superstition. One would think that because it is a sports equipment people would be more objective. But no.

I took a day trip with my wife to Girona to check out Sea Otter, and as soon as I got to this booth I was like "I guarantee you if we stay here long enough we'll see the Path Less Pedaled guy" 😂 It's true though, this kind of shop is a real gem in Spain - even Nalgenes are hard to find around here, let alone King bottle cages & steel bikepacking bikes (I happily paid a premium for a sweet Paul Components water bottle) Also, there's a joke in Spain: "Teruel no existe" - basically that nobody goes there so it must not exist. So pretty awesome to see them finding a niche there and putting Teruel back on the map 🎉

Coming from Spain, I can really relate to Israel. I grew up in a little town next to a natural park, and I could see how always people tried to compete and motivate their kids to do so. I move away from the feeling of "competing" quite fast since I love bikepacking and take my time to enjoy the different terrains I pass by. No rush and no chronos. I'm happy to see there are still people like Israel and others that try to show another perspective of cycling in Spain. Muchas gracias y quizá nos crucemos por Teruel, quien sabe:)

I found the 16" wheels always too small (pot holes, gravelroads..) and combined with a non standard gear system and sub-par brakes, it has never been what I liked. So I got a 20" eight Speed Dahon that is light, fast and offers a stable ride. But this G Line is really tempting. Need to test ride it 😊 (The main disadvantage of the Dahon is its packing space)

I just bought a 1992 Cannondale SM500 on craigslist for $300 and aside from stiff shifting and loose brakes it was almost perfectly functional out the gate and with maybe 50 cents of cable lube and an Allen wrench i was able to fix all those problems.
