Saw them at the VU in OKC 16 years old. Ate ice cream next to them at the shop across the street. Didn’t know til after. So fun to be a kid with a car and interest. : )
Pickin' like a James Burton on this solo. Pure Kirkwood at his peak. This solo! It's no wonder they released two full LPs in 1987. The live shows from '87-'89 + 1992-1993 were also stellar.
I saw these guys play this live at the Keystone in Berkeley circa 1981. They were opening for The Dead Kennedys. It was not really possible to take them seriously, which I guess was the point such as it was. We appreciated that they were making fun of the cops. I remember thinking (as guitar players so often do) "Yeah, I could play that..." and then, "...but why would I want to?" They kind of took punk rock minimalism to its logical extreme - one chord and the (banal) truth. 🙂
I remember hearing this on a local Phoenix, Arizona station that played (then) underground bands, and I just loved the rhythm and lead guitar jams of this tune. And, then the unique sound of the vocals. What a fun unique sound!
I heard the Melvins cover this at FYF over ten years ago and it randomly gets stuck in my head all the time, can't believe I just now found the original, great song
