From the rules: "If the tile you are replacing is owned by an opponent: There must be no resource cubes on the entire board, including in its Market, of the same type as the Industry tile being replaced."

Oh, so the market was empty? The GUI with "cubes" on the 6 cost Iron space is confusing, are there actually not cubes on the 6 space?

Question - you say that building a Level 4 iron works during canal era makes you at risk of somenoe overbuilding you, but can't you only overbuild industry tiles with higher level industry tiles? So I'm not sure how an opponent could overbuild a level 4 iron works? Thanks
@IM_Spoon
@IM_Spoon 4 месяца назад
Your lvl IV Iron indeed cannot be overbuilt. But the other players will work in tandem to increase iron price so that they can overbuild your lvl II / III. It is a frequent occurrence when there is a bit of table talk.

I love this game, and really enjoy your video and analysis. As a new player, I sometime struggle to decide on my strategy after seeing the merchant placement and my initial cards (BRIC vs Crates vs Manufactured vs Pottery vs Other). So here is an idea for you, what about a video with your analysis on different starting setup ? essentially, you would explain what you believe is/are the most optimal strategy given your initial hand and merchant placement.

in a lot of these videos I don't understand the math - you have 52 points, and 33 points in Canal Industries that will score again. Doesn't that make 85VP? why do you count 84?
@IM_Spoon
@IM_Spoon 8 месяцев назад
Only lvl II industries or higher will score again. In my (yellow) case, I have 33 industry points in canal, but 1 point is from a lvl I coal. Hence, only 32VPs will score again. For teal, keep in mind he got 10VP from a pottery I, which also won't score again in rail. So basically, I score end of canal as: score = canal_score + unflipped industry (if not level I) + flipped industry (if not level I) This gives you a real indication of who is ahead and not.

Moreover, the platform’s (forgot its name) videos are less watchable comparing with the tts, so with your commentaries you definitely make up for the poor picture Thanks for showing counter cotton and pottery play, as you promised 🙏 Special thx for small things like dropping a canal or two in order to provoke ppl to lay their irons so that you don’t get overbuilt. I like such details about the game.

Nice analysis! I (orange) was hampered a bit in rail because I never drew a beer industry card. In the end, I had to scout in order to build my farm brewery. Probably still wouldn't have been enough and of course I got amazingly lucky that nobody overbuilt my level III iron.

Remarkable analysis, tips in parallel due to particular situations on the board, clear distinct language (as a non-native I believe this can bring a broader audience)… And a compliment and the same time a complaint from me: these videos are just among some extremely few advanced videos on Brass B, and yours are stronger… well, the rest I mentioned are the analyses of Brass Birmingham Championship with Luca - he is a great guy but the vid and the analyses are not that great AND the video of Mafusail Robin (or what’s his name, an Indian guy) …well, when I was starting with my brass it was very valuable, but at sone point a next step was needed, which is basically your theory of strategies on bgg and these practical class on RU-vid.)) so the complaint is actually there is almost nothing besides your material. - So, it would be great to see: 1. Your pottery build 2. Your crates build (I know you hate it))) 3. Your counter play against a cotton player!!! (The current vid’s red’s play is no good, I explained before, it has no theory, but capitalising on some crazy stuff from other players. I meant you shouldn’t/cannot survive with 40 something points against 80 points, in canal. That is impossible, no matter how much cash you have. He hoped for some crazy 0.0001% he got it, theorywise it has no value) 4. Anything you’d like to shoot, even pretty much the same (well, situations are always different!) ps. Only 4s and with comments.🙏

1. I will try to get in a pottery game. Pottery is strong, but the issue is that it is only strong with the right merchant setup and the right cards, which maybe is only 10% of the games 2. I have tried high level crates 3-4 times a couple of months ago. It is just very hard to win; best I managed was second with 151 VP. I am not sure I figured out the best way, to be honest. 3. Ha, maybe a future video on how to counter cotton. My next video will be about 2 players going for cotton in a 4p game, by the way. 4. Sure!

Wow, another great video with outstanding commentary. De jure you lost, de facto you won, cos I believe some crazy mistake cannot be counted as a methodical, conceptional misunderstanding of the game. In the vid you explained the only possible sequence, how come you just did something else… I refuse to count it as a defeat. Surely do not want to diminish the red’s survivability but again in a pure theory he had lost there: 1) why on earth didn’t the teal and violet build strong pointwise and moneywise iron, letting (not planning it of course!) the red (bet he couldn’t believe his luck) overbuild you 2) your single mistake 3) that southern brewery “securing” is insane… - You play really at a high pace, we play way slower (physical copy only though).

Question on scouting: You say you do scouting in 20% of games (that’s really great of you to indicate your approximate amount of scouting!!!). What do you think about scouting in order to build iron in A JUST OPENED Coalbrookdale (I mean someone connected it right before you) thus avoiding building a link and keep a wild card too, as a bonus.??? Or it’s still a poor move?
@IM_Spoon
@IM_Spoon 10 месяцев назад
Nah, probably a good move. But many good players loathe connecting Coalbrookdale in Canal era. There are 3 coolbroakdale cards, so by connecting, that player is for sure helping someone else get a canal out. I think scouting is OK if it avoids you building a canal. Scout + build lvl III iron is quite efficient point wise, for example.

The thoughts on rail era: 34:46 I think it's too early for the lv. 5 idea. But yellow probably has nothing better to do. I'll probably just loan and pick up some single rail action. But his decision is surprisingly good. 37:35 The drawback of using up the country beer spot hit you immediately. 39:30 Intuitively, I think it's a little bit too early to scout, but given that the Derby beer spot is still empty and there are still lost of very good links remaining. It might be a surprisingly good move. 43:30 I will not mention similar mistakes(misevaluating the rails) later on. And teal definitely should beer+ double rail around Derby and Uttoxeter.
@陳琮方
@陳琮方 Год назад
Start to spectate the interesting game, will post some thoughts along the way: 3:00 If teal can build an iron in Birmingham, it's indeed a mistake to start an iron in Coalbrookdale. But I think it's mainly because Coalbrookdale doesn't offer a lot of future iron possibility and it allows another player to build their iron without making a link. 4:26 I think it's actually quite standard for BRIC players to build an iron even if it doesn't flip immediately. Six dollars are not a lot (worth less than 1/5 action) and it helps him to control several very important spots. Although you can get very cheap developments, the iron price will also be lower for him if other players decide to do iron themselves, and if the other players doesn't do irons, the he can start spamming irons around Birmingham. 5:26 Your decision is completely okay. I think another interesting option is to link Birmingham-Worchester and develop beer and coal. By doing this you secure your network around Birmingham (so you can build iron in Dudley and Coventry whenever you want) and can start to occupy beer spots in the next round. It's quite likely to get a card that allows you to build an cotton in Worchester eventually. Also, it is possible to develop beer + coal and start building beers. Although you didn't secure the network around Birmingham in this option. You can still hope the beer/iron spot in Coalbrookdale didn't get taken and you can build an iron there and build a cotton or good in Birmingham if you really need the spots around it. The options I propose have one benefit: your hand is just soooo good and you can use some of the good cards in the way you really want to use them. 11:10 Also possible to develop beer+coal and link Worchester. Preparing to put the coal in Kidderminster and get some huge income. Then your next ten actions will include: one coal, one iron, three beers, two cottons, one link ,one loan and one spare action. Develop+build a beer might be even better although you can't loan and build coal if you do so. 14:50 A big blunder, better to just set up for more beer and iron (probably with scout). I spectate a lot of teal player's games and he make this kind of blunder very often (in almost every of his game). First, lv. 2 iron also offers a certain amount of income and it will score twice. Second, it lower the coal price for the opponents. Third, as the beer+goods player, it is likely for teal to enter the rail with more money and extra beer since he had more actions to do loans and link Derby form Burton-on-Trent. The coal mine make other player's life way easier because the coal price is lower. 17:11 That why I think developing beers first is very important. Beer spot will be very heavily contested if everyone wants to go beers and some of the very valuable cards lost their value after the beer spots get taken. 18:36 I think build iron and develop can still be slightly better, just to save the three dollars and take away the free irons from you opponents. Also, you can see why spamming iron while they are on low price is not that problematic (although he really doesn't have to rush with the overbuild in Birmingham): yellow also got very cheap irons back in the later part of the canal and he controlled some of the very best spots. 21:22 Probably to do beer in Derby. The action he take this turn show why building the coal is a blunder: the Wolverhampton can be an ideal good spot for him. 23:20 Brilliant plan, let the lv. 1 coal expire and free up the potential Kidderminster cotton spot for the rail era. An suboptimal option is to develop away the beer and coal: develop, beer in Stafford, loan, coal in Kidderminster, beer in Nuneaton, sell will be you next six moves. This doesn't give you extra points and the spot in Kidderminster will be occupied. 24:09 Also surprise me. I think it's a dubious move. Try to fight for the beer spot and go for a more balanced set up is better. Generally I don't like to build four irons in the canal since you will need to sacrifice one beer and one good normally to achieve that. Not only do you get -1 points by doin that, but you also sacrifice you income and give your opponent more possible beer spots. 26:13 You go for the option I like less lol. But why not build the beer in Stafford? Summary over canal: it's a very instructive game and shows a lot of not common mistakes which is not obvious. Yellow's iron rush in the early game is good, but the lv. 3 overbuild feels wrong and lv. 4 is definitely a mistake imo. Teal's blunder to build an early coal and the last turn iron over build is also instructive. You played very well and get the best position despite you made one mistake(used up the country beer spot). Let's see how you covert your advantageous position in the rail.
@IM_Spoon
@IM_Spoon Год назад
Agree with your analysis. Some further notes from my side: Yellow goes into rail ahead in points, but no money, no income, and nothing to build that yields >5VP, unless he develops. Better would have been to cut out the link and lvl IV iron, and instead add a loan and a beer. That way, more beer spots would have been contested, and he would have had a better economy and options going into rail. I (red) have a bit less points, but a more balanced economy and options on my board. So my canal was maybe not as bad as what I thought at the time. With regards to me building beer on farm brewery in canal, it yielded 2 extra VP. But, as you write and as I noted myself in rail, it is indeed a mistake. Better to contest the beer spots in cities, as I was pretty much guaranteed the farm brewery in rail anyway.
