For me, as for “The Next Generation” movies are concerned, “Generations” is my favorite. I just wish Nichelle Nichols had appeared as Uhura, so she and Guinan could had had a scene together, however brief, as well as DeForest Kelly making an appearance as McCoy.
I still have a soft spot for this movie and insurrection. I don't understand where the hate comes from. Are they as great as first contact? No! Obviously. But compared to the Star Wars sequel Trilogy or prequel trilogy, these are masterpieces
An appropriate theme for a movie whose theme is the "passing of the torch" from the TOS Generation (represented by Captain James T Kirk) to the TNG Generation (Captain Jean-Luc Picard). As we just witnessed another "passing the torch" moment in the Trek-verse - from Picard to Captain Seven of Nine, his son Jack Crusher, and to the (hopefully) soon-to-be announced "Legacy" crew - this song is also on my thoughts as well.
I was sad when we had to say goodbye to the Enterprise-D but I was so happy when Picard S3 revealed that Geordi LaForge had been recreating the Enterprise-D for it to be set up next to it's predecessors in the museum.
It's not only the music, it's the values that comes ingrained within. For all of us who have watched and enjoyed every iteration of Star Trek, we share those values ... To strive for a better future and to overcome our flawed existence into something meaningful. To better ourself and the rest of humanity.
Believe it or not, seeing this film in theaters is likely my very first memory as I was born in May of 94. I specifically remember the bottle of champagne hitting the side of the Enterprise B, the voice of the computer during the saucer section crash and the fight between Sauren, Picard and Kirk.
The energy of this composition just relentlessly keeps pushing forward, compelling--propelling--the listener to another level. Really makes you wanna act, to do something. To go on an adventure.
I wouldn't be surprised if this overture from the first Next Generation movie composed by Dennis McCarthy were used for the 60th anniversary Diamond Jubilee of the original Star Trek TV series in 2026.
It's great that two captains of different iterations of the Enterprise 1701 joined up to stop mad scientist Soran and his trilithium-based supernova bomb.
Apparently, the plot of the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" was originaly pitched as a film, in which the Kirk Enterprise is the one that travels through time and has to be sent back to its doom to prevent the bad future, ever since I learned that, I think its the greatest Trek film we never had, if it were made, this is the theme it would have deserved.
Oh. And NO accusations of plagiarism on my part... Only so many notes, combined in a pleasing manner, are reasonably available... It's still beautiful.
