I paid $13 an ounce for this one time and I don't regret it because it was really good so I get it but maybe pour more than half an ounce in each glass for the tasting and none all over yourself bud

Love the review. Vince is a maniac for putting butter in whiskey. Lol. People like to crap on this bottle. I love it. It’s a higher end version of Weller 12. However last years Weller 12 was amazing and I’ll have to do a blind with these two. I will say once you get your hands on a Pappy 15. Oh shit. That will change everything. It’s amazing. Cheers to you all getting a Pappy 15 this year!

I did a blind tasting recently between Lot B, ORVW, OWA107, Weller 12, and poor mans pappy. You should do the same and see where you guys land on them all. I think you will be surprised with the results.

DIY whiskey project. Do your own "finishing", using various woods like oak, sugar maple, apple, cherry and others. The easy source are wood chunks bought at BBQ supply stores but I have also used woods from my own trees, each gives a unique layer of flavors. Start by making small staves, about 3" long and 1/4 inch square. Treat them at 350 F for about 20 minutes, this brings out certain natural flavors. You can use them that way, or I often use a butane flame to give each a deep char. About one ounce per bottle for four weeks works out well. Mesquite is strong, use it sparingly. Pecan is very tannic, I don't use it. And a big CAUTION, don't use any poisonous woods, the internet is a good source for that information. Happy "finishing", I've been doing it for several years, each batch is one of a kind. My base bourbon is Evan Williams 100 proof BiB.

Pay $150?? Really?? I'll line up a number of bottles in the 125-130 proof range that are as good or better and nearly guarantee you couldn't pick Stagg out of a blind. And all of them would be under $100. As a long time, long time, long time bourbon drinker I still enjoy Stagg but not gushing over it like so many (primarily newbies) do these days. People homers simply looking at the label most of the time. Willingness to pay $100, $150, or ridiculous secondary prices is why distillers will keep raising prices. Stagg seems to be holding it's price but clearly supply is an issue. No reason its not readily available by now.....that's a whole 'nother topic.

Thanks! You guys are great and make an awesome team. I wish more review video's would highlight comparisons to other brands in the same range and specifically what they (the reviewers) would buy (maybe top 2) instead of the item being reviewed and then, at the end, list their top three, from best to worst, to help folks that are new to collecting. I am new to collecting and your video was helpful.

Hopefully you guys know that Michter's barrel entry proof is lower with an intent to get full flavor from the barrels and they are absolutely on to something. I love all the barrel strength ryes but the Michter's barrel proof actually hangs with those in depth of flavor compared to the higher proof offerings.

Super super super disappointed in the SRW BIB myself. I had heard so many great things about it and then got a bottle and it was meh. The funk on it is a yeast flavor to me. Its not as bad as regular Old Elk bourbon, which is a smack across the face of yeast/raw dough/wheat but its very present. Its much line kings distillery's (pigon forge TN) wheater which is very very wheat forward. I'm hoping over time that maybe it changes some but it's nothing like weller/makers/Bardstown wheaters if you are looking for that mind. I got my for $48 in TN, so at least i didn't pay $60 here in Utah.

Picked up a store pick of this on sale for $52. As a rule I prefer darker notes (fig, chocolate, mocha, etc) but this wheated really impressed me with it's light/medium notes. Love the long finish, and the incredible toffee note right before the swallow. A real crowd pleaser IMO. I'll be going back for a second bottle before they're gone.

Good video. The thing about this is that it just for this year release only, not like the yearly Double oak. Have a bottle and it is strong, but full of flavor. To me dark fruits, molasses, raisins, brown sugar, vanilla, some wood in there and it stays in the palate for a long time. I believe it will go up again once the limited release gets consumed and only a few unopened bottles remains.

Stagg Jr I swear is just one of those bottles found in certain states over other states but those states that actually do get the bottles if you're off in timing all the bottles will be gone instantly. Luckily I got a bottle of Stagg JR 23B the other week at almost MSRP in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I do believe I paid $59.99 for the bottle. Have not opened it yet but people have said the 23B is the one that you've got to let open up and air out before tasting

Cask Strength doesn’t have to equate to high proof. It’s just means that the bourbon hasn’t been diluted at all from the barrel. Because of their low barrel entry and evaporation it lowered the ABV to 98. It still has all its flavor with no water though.
@StillWhiskey
@StillWhiskey 6 месяцев назад
Thank you @alleck! Yeah after we recorded this, we went looking up the info as well. We should probably research things more before we record.... But that requires planning and we aren't about that! :)
