What is needed is a DEMONSTRATION of how to put it on and adjust it ON A REAL BODY. Having two young women tell us mostly what we already know in a video in which the camera angle is at least 50% of the ceiling of the room is not much help. Sorry.
Good information as far as it goes, but I hoped for much more detailed instruction on how to use this catheter, especially the coude tip. Video of a real male model inserting, using and removing it would be best, but even a demonstration on a dummy would be better than nothing. There is a lot of contrary information out there, e.g. about how to wash the penis, how to juggle the catheter without touching it, especially in a public bathroom, how to avoid dripping urine on your pants, etc. And how does the coude tip actually help the catheter go in better? Should I corkscew it or keep it in a certain orientation as it enters the bladder? What if it bleeds...
The coude tip must point up, towards your belly button. It is curved up to make it easier to make the 90 bend of your urethra as it bends up to go through your prostate. There should be a marking on the outlet end of the catheter to indicate which direction the coude tip is facing.
I have an ileostomy that was done 7 months ago. Of all the rings I use safe and simple and the eakin thin rings. I do like some things about the safe and simple over the eakin. With an ileostomy my output is very liquid most of the time. Safe and simple do swell better than eakin when wet closing off leaks around my stoma. There is one key to their use. Make sure your wafer or pouch is cut from a measurement you did the day you changed. If you cut the wafer too large the top of the seal will dissolve. Safe and simple swell faster than eakin and sometimes I will leak before the eakin with swell closed. My stoma is 28mm at the base and gets narrow very fast as it goes out from my body. A thicker ring will raise my wafer to a narrower area and this causes leaks very fast. When I switched to thinner rings this raise in the wafer was not near as bad. But unlike what some do I make sure my wafer is cut within 1mm of what I measure. If I do it correct my wafer will last 4 to 5 days. My stoma is on a hump because it is starting to herniate. It was place too close to a dead area from a previous pancreatic surgery. My muscles where atrophied at the stoma site. 2 inches to the side would have prevented this. Until I get surgical correction the safe and simple rings work best for me to prevent lifting of the wafer middle. That plus using a smaller wafer that hollister suggested.
“If you’re checking and changing regularly, it’ll hold more than you’re ever gonna need” = “if you change after every sneeze, it should be fine.” That’s great for people in care facilities that have people making rounds and changing them at regular intervals. But what about younger active adults with jobs and schedules that don’t permit changing for sometimes up to 6-8 hours? And what if those jobs are physical in nature? A cloth like brief is going to leak, stretch, sag, tear, clump, disintegrate, sweat, emit odors, etc. Buyer beware. If you plan on sitting or lying stationary all day and changing every hour, this might be great for you. Otherwise, check out someone like Northshore.
There's a difference when applying one to a patient who can't get erect at all to give a better application. How to get a flush application to penile head in that case??? My patient always had a bit of a space between head and the ripples.
