Wonderful memories. Juanterana made a huge impression. I was lucky enough to see him a year or two later here in London. His 800 was so cool, the way he'd hang back and jog the first lap, then break into a 400m sprint to win on the second.

i seem to remember that the 3 americans in this race all won gold in the relay - cuba meanwhile were in last place when this champ got the baton - he was up to third at one point but then came in last again by the end - a pity.

Is very sad he decided to follow an ideology, in a free country Juantorena would be millionaire

44,28 es una buena marca en 1976. Juantorena con los entrenamientos actuales bajaría casi 1 segundo.

One question: when the Americans or Australians occasionally beat these East Germans & broke world records, was that not drugs too? You gotta be on drugs to beat people on drugs, right? Right??

"was that not drugs too? " You're either trolling, or being intentionally obtuse. Neither will get you far in life, just like doping.

@davesprague1542 trolling? How?? But I see you're stalking my comments like weirdo, tho! Either that or you're just seeking some attention. Y'know like a dirty troll beneath a bridge! What? Cos I have an opinion you don't like? I swear, some internet folks are just the biggest dickheads!🤷🏾‍♂️

There is a good deal of hypocracy at play singling out the GDR swimmer. Of course they were on anabolic steroids. Knowing that they were and realising that other nations had swimmers who performed at that level you have to ask yourself if that was on talent and hard training alone. Let me answer that. No, they all took PED.

Now the real talent has to suffer because of the drug heads of old. Hahaha, it is so obvious.

Anybody notice the incorrect world record time in the top corner? It says 43.81, but the wr was 43.86 set in 1968 and was not broken again until 1988.

Dang, I remember 76 Olympic like it was yesterday...I was 12 years old at the time..The 3 biggest names that came out of there that I still remember ( due to it was on the news daily back then ) very well was Bruce Jenner, Nadia Comanici and Sugar Ray Leonard.. They sort of became an instant household names..

We were like one huge family..It was the best time of our lives that I wouldn't change for anything. So miss the 70's..

I feel so sad for those athletes who were not drugged in these races. That Aussie girl finishing 60m down in fifth must have been thinking 'what the fuck is going on'. Awful. She should be upgraded to a Gold. Think how her life would have changed if the cheats had been eliminated during the piss test and she had been rightly awarded a medal.

Cuba has 1% of the population of India. Cuba wins on average 15-20 medals every Olympics. India wins on average one (1) medal per Olympics.

Why did you expect Coe and Ovett to dominate at the 1976 Olympics? Coe wasn't at Montreal and though Ovett was there, he had just come on the scene recently and was still a rookie to the biggest stage.

They were told they were given" vitamins "aka Turnibol. When you hear your voice deepening and your start to look like a man you know believe me you know!!!!One track and field star became a man. They knew i.e. Rica Rhenisch 1980 Olympic backstroke champion ,she pulled out cuz she knew something was up and because of that she was ousted and her family threatened.Later she suffered severe health problems. Many of them pulled out and were chastised for it others continued to take the roids and win with with times that were "not normal."They knew.

Renate Stecher was known as the first sub 11 seconds woman while Inge Helten had set a new WR of 11.04 just prior to the games? This seems to make little sense unless Stecher's time was wind-assisted...
