I stopped to pick up a toy a kid had dropped once. Traffic was stopped but the car behind did not like a delay in moving forwards in the queue and beeped! I gave the toy back to the kid.
I thought for years that it was common sense that a cyclist isn't a driver and that traffic law applies only to those trafficking. but since the internet came out, I see that common sense doesn't exist anymore.
Driver isn't expecting anything coming from his right. They're looking to their left, because that's where traffic is coming from when pulling out a side street or a driveway. I always ride with traffic for that reason. Even if I'm riding on a sidewalk or bike path, I try to use the right side of the roadway's sidewalk or bike path.
I think there are two attitudes at play with people like this: willful ineptitude, or "if he dies, he deserved it." Both totally out of touch with the reality that other people are also leading full, rich lives that they are also incredibly attatched to. Either way, it's hard for me to not approach city riding with a proactively defensive, aggressive mindset after the amount of close calls and unwanted car contact I've experienced.
Is that a shared path or sidewalk? Far safer on the road, depending on the double yellow lines there. Some double yellow laws preventing passing cyclists when it's safe, make things more dangerous for cyclists and more frustrating for drivers.
Lucky for you Lucas, you have quick evasive reactions. I prefer to be invisible to idiot drivers, I've already planned ahead for the dumbest things they could do. Throws everything off when they react with any self awareness!
The story seen and told from the inside is more grasped than READ in some FASCIST RAG or reiterated back to us from someone with no connection or understanding. Thank You for sharing The Truth.
People just, count the seconds. Incoming Lucas with his speed, was concealed by those walkers. Driver saw noone on his right, looked left for incoming traffic. Wanted to go and....surprise !!!! Big, never grown up 50 yo kid rolled across his driving path. Huffing and puffing with venom. I'm a rider too and never do such stuff. Just hit the brakes, slow down a bit, seek the eye contact and/or let go that 4 wheeler first. Better have bruised ego, than spend time and thousands on hospital and rehabilitation. What do you want to prove, lack of empathy, anticipation of consequences? Or your egocentric behavior. No need, we are all subbed here. Exactly for that stuff :P
They see you, but they just don't care. Selfish behaviour right there; just like when they chose to buy that huge Volvo because it's 'safe' (for them).
@@ccuellar6212 Well, as a cyclist, you need to think how dumb a driver can be if you want to survive. I wouldn't ride fast on a side walk seeing lots of cars entering/exiting
The law (in FL at least) doesn’t require you to go with the direction of traffic while riding on the sidewalk. Responsibility of both parties to be aware, however the vehicle would be the one to be cited if they struck the cyclist in this case.
