It's strange, these are variations on a theme. When I want different, I go outside the thick and sturdy, try some thin-rigid and thin-flexible. Depends what I'm playing but there are ranges of tone to be explored and enjoyed.
What's strange about it? My interest in doing it was to compare the pick material, shape, bevel vs. no bevel. I wasn't (and still amn't) looking for a "different sound", and am not a fan of thin picks when playing the mandolin (my personal preference, not casting judgement on what anyone else's preferences are), hence no examples of them here.
Lovely stuff, Jill... I gather that Charlie wrote this in 12/8 rather than the usual 3/4. Possibly one of the reasons (apart from your superb playing, of course) that it's so ear-catching?
I just gathered the inspiration to order my second cheap tenor banjo off ebay from watching you. The first one got jumped on by one of my kids and the neck broke, i Haven' t played in the eight years since..hopefully i can get into some kind of rutine, i need more jigs reels and hornpipes in my life
