it is definitely the anxiety for many people, it's easier to put something on that is constantly humming, more distracting ..sometimes you just try to read the book and catch yourself rereading the same sentence because all the worries, things on your schedule and problems keeps flowing into your mind in waves. Nevertheless the the small library is growing and I will get my solitude one day

Thank you for helping refocus my thoughts. Schools focus so much on backing up every idea you have with research, but that has the unfortunate effect of keeping students from expressing original thought. Thank you for reigniting my curiosity.

Do you have any info on how this structure would benefit a fictional work? I know it's centered on non-fiction but, I was wondering if it would work on my non-fictional projects too
@RCWaldun

I think with fiction you’ll have a lot more liberty over the paragraph breaks & logical flow but it’s tricky. With non fiction the only goal is to get a message across to the reader but with fiction you’re dealing with a lot more than just facts. Try it out and let me know how it goes. :)

Damn, this video is amazing. It’s not only helped me to understand a new way to learn and remember things in history, but also in programming(with the frankenstein example) I’ve noticed why it was so hard for me to make complex projects - I wanted to make every single smallest detail without creating a first general structure first, so it was becoming too hard and boring to do.

On another reading Philippa Foot and G. E. M. Anscombe may have reinvigorated debates in moral philosophy at Oxbridge, actually had very regressive views about women's reproductive rights. They are neo-aristotelian thinkers and I would say they reinforce an orthodoxy that the positivists (rightly or wrongly) were challenging. The heroic arch of their intervention to philosophy at the time is questionable if not just plain wrong.

In my fiction writing, I design my paragraphs based on rhythm. Specifically, the sentence length within a paragraph is not just dictated by the literal ideas, but also by the beat lengths within the action, providing a foundation for subtext. You'll encounter this with, say, an action sequence where sentence length is usually short. But even so, those lengths should be sculpted to carry the energy of the specific actions.

As a minimalist in most other ways, I recognise I have a problem with books. At my age, I really don't need to buy any more books to keep me going for the rest of my life! I recognise I need to go cold turkey, and not buy any more books for at least one year, that might get me out of the habit of over-buying. I do read, all the time, that's not the issue, but you're right, there's a hell of a buzz in buying a nice new shiny book. I don't think I'd ever thought about it the way you've so simply explained, that buying a book has nothing to do with reading. I once decluttered 200 unread books, which was painful, but it kicked me into actually reading the rest.

Poetry we feel in our bodies, intution, guts, hearts, spirits, and intellect. I agree, poetry speaks about the Mystery, and is always in some sense the mystery itself: impossible to truly understand, and felt differently with each reading.

I think you are not so much misunderstanding Wittgenstein as you are misapplying WIttgenstein. We all already have language, so we are all proficient in all the language games involved in learning our mother tongues. Given this, we're now fully capable of asking sophisticated questions of another language, questions which we couldn't even ask in certain, more basic, language games. For example, in the P.I., we (as one of the builders) couldn't ask "Which one is a slab?" or "Which one is a pillar?" because the notion of an object having a name never occurs in the primitive language game in which we learn commands by the name of "slab" and "pillar". Wittgenstein says that if perhaps we got confused, in this basic language game, as to which object we were to bring on the command "slab" versus which object on the command "pillar," then the idea of names being associated with objects can arise. And this story, thus, gives us another language game: one in which we wish to clear up our confusion about which objects are associated with which commands. In other words, our basic language games lead to more sophisticated language games, and thus we acquire certain ideas -- such as the idea that objects have names. All of this we know as speakers of our mother tongues, so we can apply all this, fruitfully, when learning a second language. So, when we look up words in the dictionary for our target language, we can make use of this information -- we will learn how it functions in the target language. We will not be, in other words, like the primitive builders, unable to comprehend that "slab" refers to a particular type of object and that "pillar" refers to a different type of object.

I may be stupid but it would be nice to see one of that examples you talked about. The shown quotes arent specific enough for me. I get the concept and it sounds great but i really like full length examples. I know the video cant be that long. Could you recommend some work where this method is used? Idc about the topic i only want to see the method in a longer text. (Great video btw! I love input like this!)

Source: The Elements of Academic Style by Eric Hayot. My problem with the Uneven U is that often we have limits on the length of papers we are required to submit. So if I'm to fully ascribe to this rule when I'm writing, I'll definitely exceed the allowed word-limit.
