This is a 'Video Archive' of Irish Road Racing, Mountain Biking and Cyclo-Cross. Additionally the website www.IrishCycling.com which started in 2000, also covers these activities and has archive material from the 70's, 80's and 90's. More videos get added when time is available.
Where's those stupid looking flashing red lights and blinding front white lights that blind motorists. And those ulgy looking yellow jackets, not vto mention the big stupid looking mushroom helmets. Cycling 40 years ago had class. Its vomit to watch now.
The sad, sick state of Irish cycling. Racing bikes that resemble mountain bikes and the Irish cycling federation who charge cyclists 10 euro extra for their licence because Event Bright who have nothing to do with cycling or any other sport want a percentage. Irish cycling even though they get a massive grant from the government? Can't process cyclists licences, which are extremely expensive, hand it over to a third party to further rip you off. And all the Cycling clubs in Ireland suck it up and say nothing.
The noise from those disc brakes is like a cats claws scrapping through metal😣 Never in my life have I seen riders all sitting in the saddle at a spirit finish 🤔
Well, I have loads of old videos from over the years and as I look at cycling today and the way things are changing, plus the fact that there is little footage from those years - I have for the last few winters been posting online, pictures and videos from the past so that people like yourself can re-live memories of some of the great days we have had and the many good people involved in the sport, some, sadly are no longer with us.
Thanks Tom, it was on my to do list for years, sorry it took so long. But I think that race was special and still good to look back on all these years later
@@irishcycling-videos9769 i wrote a little prose about it here Peter : 1990, when... Bikes were "fully"... rigid, and every inch of the trail was felt. Riders wore baggy tracksuits, Pedals were clipped. Sign-on involved signing with a biro on paper. Steams served as a natural hydration station, and a bike wash, and a rider wash. Dismounting to run with or shoulder the bike was part of the race. There were no drones, so Peter the camera-man rode around on the back of a Honda CG125, ridden by course builder, another Cotter (big bro). Brakes were cantilever, & squeaky. Races were long, as were courses. and the name "Seymour" didn't roll smoothly off the tongue at prize-giving, which was made in the Pub.
Real men, real bike, real racing. Not soy boys riding sloping bar, mountain bike type racing bikes with stupid looking disc brakes only suitable for motorbikes.
Great to look back at all the old faces (some no longer with us sadly) when we were young faces though I didn't ride the track championships that year. Some of the lads are still racing with the vets. Who'd have guessed what poor Emma O'Reilly would be put through by a certain Mr. Armstrong a few years later?
I remember paddy Sullivan from all these races in the 80/90s. Sad to see so many of them gone. You still can’t beat the park for racing around. Still remember doing the park gallups an hour of racing he’ll, but great at the same time...although we didn’t have a “drop of whiskey” fair play to the camera man for picking that up. Good video brings back memories.
Brilliant video. It brings back a lot of great memories. Old familiar faces, some sadly no longer with us. Joe Joe McCormack and Paddy Sullivan RIP. I loved riding the Park 2 mile circuit.
What an outstanding historical piece of footage of this race! Had many of the current greats of Irish Cycling at the time: The legends, Paddy Flanagan, Sean Lally, Pat McQuaid, Mick Nulty, the current top riders of the day,Tony Lally, John Short, and the future Stars , Martin Early and Paul Kimmage , with Mick McKenna driving the break on his 25inch Holdsworth, and the greatest and much respected father figure of cycling, JJ doing the interviews at the finish! Classic!!!
