Opie and Anthony totally got the idea that listener fatigue killed WNEW ratings and the public voted with their station choice. They got the last laugh and will end in their turn (after MANY more years BECAUSE TALK IS ADAPTIVE AND MUSIC IS STATIC). Radio is BUSINESS and they're right, in the internet era everyone does have copies of all their favorites (youtube-dl + soundconverter work a treat) thanks to RU-vid. The Frank Zappa reference was on-point, ditto the Lennon comment. Opie and Anthony are very smart people. BTW for those not familiar, 1982 was a shit era vs the peak AOR years of the late 1960s/mid1970s. When I left the metro area in '81 it was going downhill and rock DINOSAURS were boring. That was an era where real music enthusiasts tired of radio and switched to college stations because of chronic boredom and bought our content on vinyl or tape, recorded it to reel-to-reel (the equivalent of a modern home media server) then made mixed tapes and later burned CDs. Talk radio blew away the cobwebs in fine New York style. Music on radio is irrelevent. Music on the internet (RU-vid) is relevant and the information businesses get from page hits steers the money.
