Wendy King started her show business career when she was 15, as lead singer for the most famous big band of the 60's - Bob Miller and the Millermen. She led the band for four years, before appearing on Hughie Green's "Opportunity Knocks", which she won for six consecutive weeks, knocking Mary Hopkin off the top spot, to become the most voted for female singer ever to appear on the show. Wendy featured the Ukelele in her shows, and it was her world class playing skills that brought her the national and international attention she still enjoys. Wendy's exposure on Opportunity Knocks, saw her go on to appear with all the leading comedy talents of the time, both on television and in live theatre. She worked extensively alongside Morcambe and Wise, Dick Emery, Les Dawson , Frankie Howard, Tommy Cooper, Morecome and Wise to name a few. Wendy is still singing to this day.
Hughie Green was English then moved to Canada. He was turned down for the RCAF but got onto the course as a privateer and flew 4 engined bombers in ww2.
G'day to you Wendy, I was only 23 when I saw this Movie, your part in it ,at this Tender Age made me search for a Girlfriend just like you! PS Didnt find one ,but it was Fun looking!
How TV talent shows have changed. This is full of very talented people, it’s very light hearted and good natured and Wendy is so talented. Today, it all seems to be a lot more nastier and cutthroat and X Factor just shoots people down in flames and in the most horrible of ways and those judges seem to take great pleasure in deflating people’s dreams..something Hughie would never have done.
I can only remember vaguely Opportunity Knocks episodes from the ABC days, so it is so nice to see a whole episode. Well done to Wendy for her performance and for posting. Many thanks.
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
17:28 - Whatever happened to Glasgow actress June Andrews, seen performing alongside Lex MacLean throughout this series? She was an Scottish Television (STV) continuity announcer at their first home in Theatre Royal and appeared in various regional plays, theatre and pantomime performances and some of Britain's best-known TV shows (This Man Craig, The Vital Spark, ITV Sunday Night Theatre, Lex MacLean TV shows and Sutherland's Law to name a few) - I assume she may have passed away by now but any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Wendy, I would love to say that Dick Clark was a great host, even for the Pyramid series. Plus, at 20:56, thank you for keeping the MTM Enterprises logo at the end of the video. Burton Richardson: And now, here's the man with all the answers, Dick Clark! Sean Evelsizor (in reply to the MTM Enterprises logo): I LOVE the MTM Cat, and I LOOOOOOOVE cats.
