Gohitsu Shodo Kai (The Enlightening Brush Japanese Calligraphy Association) is an independent western Japanese calligraphy society founded in 2010 by Esteban Martinez.
Gohitsu Shodo Kai aims to build a community of people looking to train in Shodo as a way to discover their inner spirit, enhance their senses, and find happiness. Unlike traditional calligraphy associations in Japan, Gohitsu Shodo Kai’s mission is not to promote calligraphy education from an academic perspective. Instead, we train in calligraphy and approach it from a Zen and martial arts point of view. We teach the technicality of writing Kanji in harmony with our kiai (spiritual power).
It was great when you pulled up the bag with the 50 attempts, it really reminded me that mastery is not achieved by chance but by dicipline. I follow many calligraphers on social media and I forget that what we get to see it's only their best work.
Awesome and beautiful!!!!! Have you tried using a purple rabbit hair brush? I know they are more for extra fine work, but would love to see you use one. I feel like that's more of my style. Maybe it's just the lack of skill and precision but I feel like I always go back to my Pentel color and dual brushes because of the ultra fine characters I practice. Sadly there isn't any here in the states for I had to order from China. 😭 Too long until it arrives!!!!!
Just to add additional info, what you wrote on the first one is etsu/iu 曰, which means "the main person said" 日 is supposed to be a little slimmer But, I still applaud your efforts. Great job there
@@Gohitsushodostudio I would like to know where you learn Japanese Calligraphy and how you practice it. These aren't many videos that teach Japanese calligraphy for beginners.
your new video is nice, thank you for showing how to find the center - I liked this one for starters as it has the grid: Japanese Calligraphy Tutorials- Writing Kanji #07 月 Moon - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yj9gVv3kdVs.html
I have heard Chinese speak of hot and cold foods for your internal heat that could effect you in many ways. Many Chinese masters have also become famous for their drunken writing 😆. Great video and I recommend a book by Chiang Yee , Chinese Calligraphy, as my favorite book on writing methods and aesthetics of 书法. Maybe you will enjoy it too!!
Hi Esteban, great to see you again. Something I've only really noticed is that your brush looks like it is fully loaded with ink, almost overloaded. 🙇♂🙇♂
Thank you so much for your work, man. I really appreciate it and learn a lot from it. These simple and effective lessons are exactly what I need to improve my calligraphy. Keep them coming!
Hey Gohitsu, This is Shilpi from India. Actually Im getting my first tattoo soon and I really want Yakuza kanji characters in Sosho script. I've searched a lot but couldn't find any help. So I'd really appreciate if you could help me with this. Like even a little. Thanks !

I heard in a documentary that some kids are taught to write the kanji with breathing exercises, like meditation. And they do it in pen because you can't erase it and you learn to do it carefully. It sounded super cool but I can't find any info or details about this. Can anyone tell me about it? Apparently you have to breath out when doing strokes...or maybe it was in between. I can't remember, hence my search for info.
I'm getting slightly better at reading Japanese calligraphy (of the small percentage of kanji that I know, obviously lol). It definitely helps seeing it being written because I can see the stroke order.
