Hi I am about to adopt a hyacinth macaw. I was told by my vet to quarantine for 45 days. My question would be should I take her to the vet as soon as possible or should I wait to let her adjust? Thanks
I take birds about 7-14 days later to the vet so they can adjust a bit. BUT 45 days is a long time so go to the vet for blood tests and a check up can decrease that to 30 days.
Nothing can out-cute a macaw, they are my favorite beings. If I had the money of Musk, Bezos, ZuckerBorg; I'd have a rescue 1000 square miles (640,000 acres) here in South Florida Humans have enough agencies, all they do it populate, plunder and pollute.
She loves her bananas, do you know that macaws in the wild (before human encroachment) had the most blissful existence? They had all the food and clean water they could ever want so they had time to develop socially. They had synergy with nature
Yep sad to see my parrot rescue have so many being given away and not previously fed properly. It is just crazy what these some of the birds come in with just seed and peanuts and old dirty cages.
Going from home to home is not easy for a human child either. Yup, I know what I'm talking about...... The world literally tells you that "You have no value, nobody needs you. You are just a "thing" that people can kick out of the house when they get tired of you. You are so horrible, nobody can stand you for more than a few months."
What is truly exhausting is that I have room in my heart, home and life for a bird, but I can't get the rescues to act. I have experience with an Illiger Macaw and I'm longing to have a mini in my world. I don't think I have a choice but to pay big bucks to purchase a new friend.
Because when you bring a wild animal which parrots are... into your home, they will view the human they pick as their mate. The instinct is strong in parrots.
