Rachel Toalson writes lots of books. For lots of people-kids, teens, adults, fiction lovers, poetry lovers, essay lovers. People who adore realistic stories or magical realism or fantasy or tales that keep them up at night or make them laugh out loud. She writes the books she most wants to read, which is the best way to entertain herself and her kids and get a little peace and quiet in her excessively loud home. She’s the author of the middle grade books, The Colors of the Rain, which won the Arnold Adoff Poetry Honor Award in 2018, The Woods, and The First Magnificent Summer, among many others. She lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her husband and six children.

Good video! Google must be reading my posts and comments! I was asking around why still so much hate against no-vax. One person said because they say "fake news" and they believe in "conspiracy theories", so i calmly asked what "fake news" what exactly is their "conspiracy theory", and obviously nobody dared to answer. Two people reacted with the laughing emoji ... seems legit when you have nothing to say but feel annoyed by the post.

I liked your review of this book. I'm a white guy with sons and no daughters, but I will look at this book series for them. I wanted to comment on your opinion that we shouldn't stare at people who are different. I disagree. I have seen a woman in a burqa only once in life and I observed everything I could from the brief experience. To her it was commonplace and normal, to me it was exotic and mysterious. I wish I could have asked her about her life and experience in her culture, but of course she had her own life to get on with and I had mine. I had that one chance to see it, and I'm not sorry I took the time to observe what I could from a different culture.

Excellent discussion, and I totally agree. It's also interesting that content creators are called haters for pointing out misinformation, and women are called haters for talking about inequities in society. Haters gonna hate, and it's still frustrating that they do. I find myself wanting to comment more out of "that's not factually correct!" (Like people saying they're not banning books they're curating) on posts lately, and I take that as a sign that I have something to say about it and should make my own content doing that.

Personally I don't care much about the term itself, I don't deal with disrespect, arrogant, selfish, self-serving, immoral people. In terms of this what I will say is many men concerned themselves with women who have these aforementioned 'qualities' but should not. Women who act this way are vocal so you know what they are about thus not much of a concern. Instead there are those are against this and on the side of the polar opposite of these, on your side so to speak, but sadly just a mask, don't be fooled though because they are cunning and smart they know exactly what they are doing. Of course behavioral science will have you know which is which... men do the same, this 'feminist movement' have nothing to do with feminism and if this movement is not addressed a decade from now society will be the reflection of whatsoever the choice was people made. I do not live in the US nor Europe, we do not have social problems of this nature. We value tradition, we choose to be supportive, not hurl imprecations which start with division and hatred which leads to contempt and eventually attrition and a fractured society. Often times the signature is decline in relationships (male/female) and for that matter marriage.

Mind is a forerunner of all actions. All deeds are led by mind, created by mind. If one speaks or acts with corrupt mind, suffering follows, As the wheel follows the hoof of an ox pulling a cart. Mind is the forerunner of all actions. All deeds are led by mind, created by mind. If one speaks or acts with a serene mind, happiness follows, As surely as one's shadow. 'He abused me, he mistreated me, defeated me, robbed me.' Harboring such thoughts keeps hatred alive. 'He abused me, he mistreated me, defeated me, robbed me.' Releasing such thoughts banishes hatred for all time. Animosity does not eradicate animosity. Only by loving kindness is animosity dissolved. This law is ancient and eternal.”

Feminism has nothing to do with appearance or anything else. Guys can be feminists too. All you have to do is support freedom, and not stand against it. It's a tall order, you find many people who say they are all for freedom, when pressed, actually stand against freedom, and want to impose their morals, religion, rules, customs, norms, or laws upon others. They may stand for freedom when you are like them or for freedom for themselves, but for people or groups or niches or people with kinks or quirks or mindsets not like them... they are dead set against those people having freedom.

You're playing by an old rulebook. This is feminism in the 1980's and earlier. Now, it's about nothing but the oppression of men. Why do you think so many men are leaving the dating market entirely? We will not be subjugated, anymore than your mother and grandmother would have been.

We generally prefer "descriptive definitions" that attempt to capture the way *most* people use a term, as opposed to "prescriptive definitions" that rely on some subject matter authority, as the latter approach tends to sow confusion in discourse among the laity. The most concise descriptive definition of feminism I've ever heard comes from the economist Bryan Caplan, who records the definition as "the view that society generally treats men more fairly than women". I think this definition is really good. I can ask basically anyone whether or not their society generally treats men more fairly than women, from most recent-ish time periods, in most countries, and their answer will tell me with extreme accuracy whether or not they self-identify as a feminist.

I hope you're successful, and you manage to revert feminism to it's former glory. The world would be better for it. Sadly, modern feminism has largely been coopted by the loud, angry, aggressive, man-hating, self-proclaimed feminists that fit the stereotype you're battling against. This is probably why fewer and fewer women self-identify as feminists every year. People seem to be jumping that ship as fast as they can because the movement has become so toxic. But maybe you're right. Maybe the stereotype is still the minority of feminists. If so, I really hope you can find a way to get a muzzle on them, because holy hell are they making the rest of you look bad.

Rachel, I don't know where you're going with this whole world view. You are finding reasons to be angry. So could everyone, male or female. In any society, in any generation. It's not that it's unreasonable to be angry over specific things - men most certainly are. But it doesn't work as a whole approach to life. We only get to live once. You should never give up the pursuit of the good. That includes the good that you embody as a woman & that you fulfil yourself through and that you gift to those you love.
@RachelToalson
@RachelToalson 10 месяцев назад
I notice this is the first of my videos you've commented on. I think if you watched some of my other videos, you might have a different impression of me. We can be angry and still hold on to good and beautiful things. But injustice and inequality will always make me angry.
@markrichardson66
@markrichardson66 9 месяцев назад
@@RachelToalson True, it's the first I've seen. But I have an additional comment. One of the problems with modernity is that people only see their own sectional interests rather than a common good. Therefore, women might say "We will use anger as a political tool to get what we want out of men or society". But this approach eventually runs aground because it has no concern for the social capital it is running down; nor for how relationships might be successfully harmonised; nor for upholding the positives in what men and women have to gift each other. As it happens, I think there has already been overreach that has left men not only increasingly angry at women and society, but increasingly willing to opt out altogether, meaning that some women will get much less than previous generations of women.
@BrianBaileyedtech

Yes but there are always so many other people in the world who are far worse off than you. Pumpkin cupcakes makes 12 cupcakes 1 cup (5 ounces) whole wheat flour 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon baking powder ½ teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt ⅛ teaspoon ground allspice ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger ¾ cup canned unsweetened pumpkin puree 7 tablespoons (3 ounces) sugar ½ cup vegetable oil 2 large eggs 3 cups Cream Cheese Frosting (page 401) Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees. Line 12-cup muffin tin with paper or foil liners. Whisk flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt, allspice, and ginger together in large bowl. Whisk pumpkin, sugar, oil, and eggs together in second bowl until smooth. Using rubber spatula, stir pumpkin puree mixture into flour mixture until combined. Divide batter evenly among prepared muffin cups. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out with few crumbs attached, 15 to 20 minutes, rotating muffin tin halfway through baking. Let cupcakes cool in muffin tin on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove cupcakes from muffin tin and let cool completely on rack, about 1 hour. Cream cheese frosting makes about 5 cups, enough for two-layer cake 12 ounces cream cheese, softened 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 6 pieces and softened 1½ tablespoons sour cream 1 teaspoons vanilla extract ¼ teaspoon salt 1½ cups confectioners' sugar Using stand mixer fitted with paddle, beat cream cheese, butter, sour cream, vanilla, and salt on medium-high speed until smooth, about 2 minutes. Reduce speed to medium-low, slowly add sugar, and beat until incorporated and smooth, about 4 minutes. Increase speed to medium-high and beat until frosting is light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. (Frosting can be refrigerated for up to 3 days; let soften at room temperature, about 1 hour, then rewhip on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes.)
