Nice Lackawanna passenger car, My grandpa started as a fireman on steam trains for Lackawanna before becoming an engineer, then continued for Erie Lackawanna until he retired in 1975..........brings such great memories!
Bigger question: why remove the electrical systems? Why not bookend consists with a diesel on one end and a Toaster or Hippo on the other like ACES? It's a quick way to create push-pull sets without passengers in the leading vehicle (for safety) and enable NYP transit. Think of all the potential service expansions without buying a single dual mode locomotive.
It may have been more cost effective for Amtrak. HHP-8s had their issues and ACS-64s were built to replace the HHP-8s & the aging AEM7s. So at that point, why would Amtrak essentially rebuild locomotives they spent millions to replace? Also, Amtrak's HHP-8s had issues running in push pull, at least with Metroliner cab cars. Converting them to NPCUs made more sense. I doubt Amtrak has services along the Corridor that have the demand for a ACES like setup.
@@NortheastTrainManthey also are now utilizing some of the equipment from the HHP-8’s to fix some Acela sets. However they also have a whole set they’re parting out
These were the glory days of the WMSR. I'm glad they are doing better (financially) now than they had been but this was around the end of the golden age in my opinion
Yayyy someone finally shot proper from the 1st car! Nice to see the power company finally cut all those trees from the power lines too. Long overdue ! Wish theyd do it everywhere else like their supposed to and not trim them but remove them. Power outages suck and people are stupid and plant trees below them.....thanks for sharing a great video!
