Thanks a lot! The car makes it easy to drive to be honest, lots of people think big power cant work in a front wheel drive but if you set it up right it does! The old girl is running more like 500bhp now too!
In the early 20th century 'they' used to say if an automobile went above 30mph the passengers' heads would explode, late 20th century they said more than 200bhp in a front wheel drive car would be totally undriveable. Its up to us to prove them wrong. Haters, Mr Fishface, are always gonna hate.
We were well under the noise limit so had no issues. Depending which Mongoose you have you should be ok. The normal Mongoose cat back is pretty quiet but a Section 59 will probably be too noisy.
They are the 356mm 8 pot K Sports. The latest coilover set up is rather hard but not overly harsh. The set up on the car when the video was shot was a lot softer and hardly noticeable on the road!
Love it! Lol I'm surprised, I actually sound quite calm, relieved didn't knock Andy out and glad vid didn't pick up the 1st few squeaks that slipped out. Was an awesome experience, was blown away by confidence n skill of the pair of you. Thanks 4 sharing it xx
The rears will definitely come next! In the mean time I'll be counting on my upgraded rotora S/D rotors and Blue Stuff pads in the rear. Once again, thanks a lot for the fantastic response, and best of luck on the track! Sam
Thank you so much for your in-depth response. It has been very informative. I had considered going with the EBC Blue Stuff pad from the start after reading that they were considered the best pad for Ksport's BBK. I actually have been running a Blue Stuff pad for about a 7 months now and haven't experience fade, I have slotted and drilled upgraded rotors as well but have recentely experienced vibration under hard braking giving me the impression that the rotors are warpped thus the brake change.
We have never suffered brake fade with either setup running DOT 5.1 fluid and we get the front brakes hot enough to melt the centre caps and the spigot rings lol! Passengers are usually most impressed with the braking power which if we have slicks on is enough to make you worry that your eyeballs will pop out! The ST does most of its braking on the front as its massively front heavy by the way! Yours would probably give the brakes an easier ride! You may need to upgrade the rears as well though!
Do bear in mind though that our car is mainly used on track although having said that the EBC and Ferodo pads were also good on the road, when cold, wet etc! In terms of braking the K Sports are absolutely brilliant! We changed from AP Racing 4 pots and the K Sports are more powerful but also smoother in use! The APs were very grabby especially on the road! We also used the DS2500 in the APs so it wasnt just down to the pads!
Hi Sam. We never actually ran with the K Sport pads as, at the time they didnt have a good reputation! Since then though they have changed to a British pad supplier and the reports i have heard have been very good! We started off using the Ferodo DS2500 pads but have since changed to the EBC Bluestuff which we think are better pads and are also half the price of the DS2500!
I was wondering what you thought about your Ksport brakes? I ordered a BBK front 8 piston caliper set for my heavily modded 350Z and had heard some disappointing reviews on certain forums about the Ksport pads that are included. Can you tell me anything about your brake set-up, how it feels, if brake fade is an issue, and/if you changed the stock Ksport pads? I would more than appreciate it. Thanks, Face. Drive safe...but fast :D Sam
Nice vid mate, I was admiring how quick this ST was on the day. I was riding in the Z4 at 5:30. I sat out and watched from the pit wall for a while and 'Tigger' was quite happily the quickest thing on track down the start straight! Awesome sounding machine too! Great work
Cheers for the good comment Matty! 320 is a good figure! As long as you get the chassis and brakes sorted though it will easily handle another 100 bhp!
There was nothing you could of done any better! If you had of tried anything else it could of caused an issue then. Well controlled and executed. Ill upload some in car from my view. Makes good viewing of the Brooklyn stickered esc cos, Bastos esc cos, Focus with active diffs plus the other top cars of the day. Safe driving all :)
Its easy to sit on the sofa and comment but when you are making a decission at around 120 you cant think twice! It does look close on camera but if I had to I could have got out the move without contact as easy as I made the move! Thats just the difference between being on track and sitting at a computer like RSfude! Oddkidd your escorts were goiong well as usual hopefully get talking next time!
It didnt seem too bad most of the time but we did get some bottlenecks when slower cars were refusing to pull over! You need to set some time aside and get out there though!
Shame the track organisers got greedy, that's too many cars out there at once for such a short track. Nice videos though mate, enjoy watching them. Wish I wasn't so busy right now coz I'm itching to get some good track videos. :)
