Dear Sarah, my husband and I are currently living in California. We would like to visit Costa Rica for the month of January and work remotely. Do you have any recommendations for locations to stay and types of housing? We enjoy local markets and like to explore new places. Thank you!
Why are Costa Ricans are upset about gentrification? Because they're using our lands and forests to build retirement centers and homes for wealthy immigrants, places so expensive that Costa Ricans can't even dream of affording them. Don't you think it's unfair that we are displaced from our natural beauties just because we don't have enough money? Not to mention that they are affecting the price of the food too. The worst part is that immigrants pretend to care about us and our culture, but they're not even willing to learn our language. Gentrification is causing economic, social and environmental disasters in our country.
I'm moving to Costa Rica. Preparing now for moving in a couple months. Gonna review all the reference materials provided here. I know nothing but I know I don't want to stay in the U.S.
@@molinaafo an expat is classified as someone who loves to a foreign country more on a potential basis. From what I understand. I work with a lot of people who only plan to come for a year or two. That’s my understanding of the term at least.
I was driving around Sunday and it’s definitely a family day here. I saw community centres with a live bands and locals were dancing ,the restaurants were filled with families gatherings.
I keep having to ask myself when in Costa Rica. Are people really this genuine and nice? The sense of community is huge... It's so very refreshing. Glad I'm fortunate enough to have a place there bc in LA/OC California, for the most part, it's the complete opposite. As a human being I believe there is an intrinsic desire for community.
It’s because of you that we were able to move to Costa Rica and begin our new life of adventure. Thanks so much for everything you do. We could have never done it without you! Congratulations on reaching this milestone! ♥️
When I decided to move to CR, making friends was one of the things that I was concerned about. I was wondering 'how do adults make new friends?' I hadn't had to make a new friend in a long time. I actually lost some friends during the pandemic because of all the concerns about getting together and whatnot. Even still, I was determined that I would figure this out and before I even moved, I started joining some CR Facebook groups. After being here for a few months, my daughter was at the mall and a Tico young man walked up to her and asked her about a plushy she was carrying. Long story short, she ended up giving him the plushy because she knew she could get another one back in the US when she visited. They exchanged contact info and through him we have met 6 other people! That one chance encounter has resulted in numerous get togethers where we regularly all hang out, play games and BBQ. That is just one story of all the different people that I have met since coming here. I have made more acquaintances and new friends in the last year in CR than I have in the last 27 years since high school. It is unreal! Another thing that is interesting is the amount of other US expats that I've met and the international variety of friends that I have made. I know people from all over the world now. Sarah is right, you just gotta put yourself out there. Even if you are a shy person, you just gotta get out there while being shy. LOL

Costa Rica is kinda what North America was 50 years ago. Family used to be an important thing in North America. Not so much anymore
Yeah, we've definitely noticed that people in Costa Rica prioritize making time to visit with friends. And they also seem to prioritize meeting new friends. My wife and son are there there waiting for me, and we've connected with a few truly wonderful Ticos!
Just thanks for your cheery, pura vida disposition Sarah Elena. I catch a lot of your videos and know that if my wife and I ever got serious about moving, I would definitely check out going on a retreat first and then evaluate. We’ve been to CR 4 times since 2005. Mostly eco-lodge type stays. Unbelievably kind people. This young CR chef wants us to come back and stay at his house… I’m sure we will… he has a bakery now… yum lol. ✌🏼🐸
The Ticos are extremely friendly, and so are the Gringos who have moved to Costa Rica. For sure, you won't have any problem making friends in Costa Rica.
Sarah, congratulations! As I told you when we met, we watched you from the beginning but didn't know about the importance of "following." Manny and I watched almost every video even before your beautiful daughter was born. It was thanks to you that we moved up our relocation time frame. We'll hopefully be there by March/April. You played a major roll in our life's plan and I hope anyone sitting on the fence gets off! It was the RU-vid videos that played a big part. I'm surprised that it's only 15k! Please don't include us in the giveaway! We already attended your retreat and signed up for your services so I don't want someone else to lose out. Pura Vida!
Felicidades Sarah!!! 🥳 Congratulations on a milestone achievement. You should celebrate on what you’ve accomplished in these many years. I was there when you were holding your baby daughter in your hands just starting to tell your story. 😊 You were the one that brought me here and I thank you oh so much for doing what you have done for me and so many others. I don’t have any questions so I won’t enter the contest. 😁
@@johnjames2716 I know it can be fast sometimes and I apologize for that. RU-vid has a feature where you can slow down the audio to a better speed for you. It’s in the settings right on the video.
Such a great person and mom ! Congrats I enjoy watching and listening to all your informative blogs and travel in CR . Wish more success in the future!
Congrats on 15,000 subs, I remember when you were at only a few hundred. Keep up the great work. Glad nobody lost an eye with that confetti canon, Parecía muy peligroso!🤣
You earned every sub!! You are by far heads and tails the best Costa Rica ambassador. Even though there is not much coverage on limon or the east coast.😊
@@erichertzen3251 thank you Eric!! I appreciate the trust and faith in the info! I’m happy you guys are living the life you planned for here in Costa Rica
