Once you learn the proper technique it is easy or at least it gets easier the more you practice. I started training last year and have had great progress. Thanks for the comment!
That's some advanced roll recovery from a backdeck position. This past weekend, my setup was falling backward to be in position already for the RIGHT foot drive. It helped a lot. The instructor helping me said he considered me nailing my first successful roll but my blade hit his body and knocked me back down. I'm starting to feel the rolling mechanics but still need to fully land any roll on my own.
Hard to do for sure, especially in a sea kayak. My main problem is lifting my head as well as getting the proper rotation of the blade to the top deck. Also tried the shotgun roll but couldn't make it work, I'll try again next week. We have about a month of pool session left then I'll be running some Cockenoe island tours through the spring and summer. I believe we will be doing some custom classes this season for any skill level in Saugatuck River Westport.
