Huge thanks for getting this game to work again. And for simplifying the instructions for those of us not computer savvy. I would recommend specifying where you downloaded your files from. I used the original disc install but was able to find the other two files online.
makes me want to install this again 😊 !!! just installed the new gepard(2024 ) tile set with korea terrain in Sf2 with the new menvra sky mod it is the best graphics i have ever seen in strike fighters esp in dusk after a point game play matters more if graphics is adequate also tried falcon bms but too complicated , dont have that much time .... these sims do modern a/g much better than sf2 where it is simplified but in A to air , there is not that much difference(did manage some a/a kills on falcon 4 allied force !!! ) and SF 2 gameplay in this respect
I thought Wings of prey was a good game with great graphics and sound. I purchased a copy when it first came out. Fun game play with being a bit on the arcade side. But I liked it. However I remember the multiplayer interface was horrible and they never got it fixed before they abandoned the game all together. Now only single player is available. Instead they focused on War Thunder development which turned out to be a huge success but not my cup of tea.
just tested out latest f22 mod for sf2 , it is fantastic !, does model stealth to a degree (have constructed some engagements in mission editor versus su 27 s , the f22 dominates , put the f15c in the same situation it is difficult to survive !!!. also the flight model /cockpit is quite good as well . finally a good f 22 (perhaps barring DCS mod i do not have access to ) novalogic f22 did not have stealth in any way the new uk photo terrain mod is fantastic as well/with the menrva sky /lighting mod it looks very good only regret sf2 engine does not model HMD (helmet mounted sights which the lock on /dcs series does very well ). with this feature and multiplayer/replay track (as in il2 /dcs etc ), one could have fights like that featured using dcs in youtube (given the huge number of jets mods available)

Fantastic, thanks for uploading the video showcasing the process, I hope this gets more recognition. Just a heads up for anyone who has the error trying to install F18 in Windows 11 (must have been some Windows update that wreck this), you can install this game in 86box and copy the installed files into Windows 11, just need to use the f18.reg file to correct the path again.
What's up man, you're an absolute legend for this. I have one issue though, I cannot access the option menu. It gives a an error about the me_option.lua file ; "table index is nil". Let me know if you ever came across this error or if you need more info!
@@thejetfighter This could be it. The thing is that I'm doing this in linux with bottles and I'm pretty sure that everything runs as "administrator". Everything worked first try on my windows machine. I'll try to reinstall with a different runner and let you know.
2 installations later still the same issues Error: ..\blackshark\modules\me_options.lua:519: table index is nil the game runs ,fully activated and I can get in game but cannot enter the option menu.
I got this game day one. The graphics were amazing for the time. I did not like this game because at the time I did not understand pc game flight physics. Blast from the past 👍4
Yes, the way you have to fly in this game is quite different compared to amore "realistic" sim, but still entertaining and fun. Graphics are still good after all these years :-D
fantastic graphics engine for its time, runs well on basic systems spitfire V (with cannons ) though ! !!! in BOB gets boring after some time though unlike il 2 1946 , the enemy ai is bit weak as far as i remember' but still much more realistic than ace combat or Hawx
Yes, definitely IL-2 is superior in terms of realism. Wings... is for those moments to just chill a little. I have HWKS in queue since is basically a Close Combat with a different name X-D

If you want to play this in true 16:9 widescreen, go to the graphics.cfg in the config folder and change this; Simulation { resolution = {1920, 1080}; bpp = 32; fullscreen = 1; aspect = 1.333333373; to this Simulation { resolution = {1920, 1080}; bpp = 32; fullscreen = 1; aspect = 1.6; *You might have to save it on your desktop first and then drag into your config folder and overwrite the original.
Where do i download the the "more modern jetfighters mod?" Do you have a guide on your channel? Great youtube channel and website. your guides have helped me install alot of old games :) Is there an official jetfighter discord or other kind of stuff?
Can you make a video about difference between mods for IL2 1946? still confuse which mod to download for IL2 1946 and Is all the mods for multiplayer purpose only or they include single player campaign too?
Most IL-2 installs include the same basic IL-2 one player missions. The MODS usually add more features so players can make their own missions specially the Multiplayer ones. Personally, I recommend either the HSFX or the Ultrapack since both 24/7 servers that I know work with those MODs.
