Since the 80s, Wim Mertens has been following his own path through music, creating albums of minimal elegance as well as concerts that range from solo piano to full orchestra. One of the foremost composers of so-called New Music in Europe, Merten’s music appeals to both serious music-lovers and a more general public. His early landmark albums included 'Vergessen' and 'Struggle for Pleasure'. Since then, he has composed pieces in different formats, from short, accessible songs or Lieder to magnanimous and complex three- and four-part cycles, and for different settings: from solo piano to chamber music ensembles and symphony orchestra. His first recording, 'For Amusement Only', was an electronic composition for pinball machines. The 1984 release, 'Maximizing the Audience', saw the introduction of his distinctive vocals in his music. His releases have included the ambitious 37-CD cycle 'Qua' started in 1991 and 1997's guitar album 'Sin embargo'. New album 'Ranges of Robustness'.

El último concierto de Wim Mertens fué celestial. Este tema no puedo dejar de escucharlo, como muchos otros. Me parece que Mertens describe algo del sentimiento contemporáneo, altamente moderno pero tan natural a la vez . Mucha belleza !!

Desde joven está empeñado en cantar y parece que no se da cuenta de que tiene una voz muy desagradable. Si dejara cantar a una buena soprano le iría mejor y el trompetista parece de una feria. Buen ejemplo de una buena carrera desaprovechada.
Absolutly Amazing emotional, sensitive, creative! Wim you are running all against any specific classical ""sing sang" and playing piano rule" all the time! you give all you´r tracks with your unbevielble "high" voice the bit "little extra"! To be uinque! This why i´m such a hugh fan of all of you´r music!!
