Hello! I'm an Amateur Radio enthusiast with a passion for experimenting with radios, antennas, and software. On my RU-vid channel, I share videos about the Icom 7300, Icom 7610 Elecraft K3S, KX2 and more as well as many Ham radio software programs. My goal is to inspire others to get involved in the exciting world of Amateur Radio.
I'm currently expanding my channel to include travel and adventure content. This year and next, I plan to operate many Parks on the Air (POTA) activations. You can follow Mr. B. and me on our travels via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and RU-vid.
If you have any questions, please leave them in the comment section here. I prefer comments over email because your questions and comments can help others too.
Thank you for subscribing to this website. I truly appreciate your support. Feel free to send in questions that I can turn into RU-vid Shorts or Tech Tips videos.
You’re not supposed to use wide bandit version on the slots frequencies. It spills over into the adjoining slots so sit on my welcome to join VARAC email.
I found that JS8 does not start transmitting until you hit the cartridge return key. Therefore, when I’m typing a response I hit the carriage return after I type the first few letters or a word. That starts JS8 transmission and it’s an easy matter to stay well ahead of the transmission. If you don’t do that, you end up with a number of blank segments on the receivers end. When it happens to me, I think we’ve lost connectivity. Also, end your message with BTU - back to you. JS8 inserts the “end of message” triangle when it perceives no more text. If you continue typing you could double with the contra party.
@@jhmcglynn good information! Thank you for commenting and I hope to get back to this mode again. It is a fun mode when we can find others on there to make contacts with. 🙃 Take care, God Bless, 73 and good DX!

Thanks for commenting and great question. HRD and DM780 work great. Here’s a link for your k0pir.us/digital-master-780-dm780-cw-send-cw-interface-how-to/ and k0pir.us/transmitting-cw-in-ham-radio-software/ GL and best 73
It's nice to hear from you Greg and thanks for commenting and great question! Off the top of my head, I don' think we see contacts already worked in the decode list. Have fun, 73 and good DX!
Just bought a 7300 and followed your screenshots and video and worked first time no issue. So nice to have instructions that work. Thank you for doing this. checking out the rest of your videos and subscriber.
@@mikemcdonald5147 congratulations and thank you for commenting. If you are working digital modes, you’ll be very happy with this radio. Not to mention it has terrific audio on side band. Never any complaints on audio. Best 73 and good DX!
It's nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. Great question. No, not that I am aware of. I would take another look, but I don't have the 7610 with me. GL 73 and good DX!
Hi I am in Haleyville Alabama I am a extra class operator I wish the next time your down this way you would do a pota in The Bank Head Forest at US-3706 and do some videos of how bad the storm damage is we lost a nice park I have been going there for years as a child and taking my kids and grandkids there we need some help getting it back up to like it was just no cell service there is a problem to in the Forest if you have a accident no way to get help over there either . 73 K4BWN
Hi Tommy, it's nice to hear from you and thank you so much for commenting here. It really helps the channel. Last month I was looking at some POTA parks in AL and I pinned that one. It's closeby. Someday and hopefully soon. Thanks Tommy 73 and good DX!
@@HamRadioAdventures Good to hear from you I have done I think 3 or 4 potas there they charge you $3.00 a day to park there the bridge was damaged by a strong storm sometime back my son likes to go and look for Indian arrowheads and rocks in the water down there I wish AT&T or some other phone company will put a cell system over by the rangers tower on Alabama 33 coming through the forest I had a buddy that got killed in a truck over and burned up in it had to send somebody on up the road to get cell service because there was no cell phone service out in their . 73 K4BWN
I own both. Ill NEVER part with my fully loaded K3s/P3. However its sits in my rack below the 7610. I use the Icom almost exclusively for now. Its display and controls are very intuitive and to be honest I just enjoy watching the waterfall while scrolling through CW activity. The gloss black and Crome highlights are just beautiful. But I will say someday Icom will replace this radio with the latest and greatest but my K3s will still be around. I thought about selling both and getting the K4 but I'm just not that impressed by it. It looks cluttered to me.
What I did on my Elecraft K4 that should work for the 7610 is to use an HDMI capture card to usb 3.0 for the video out. Then I can get any size on my monitor for the display. Thank you for showing the radio display. Nice.
@@thuff3207thanks for commenting and FB on the capture card. A fellow ham sent me one and I started using it in 2023. It works great just like you mentioned. Best 73 and good DX! and thank you again. 73 and good DX!
@@HamRadioAdventures sorry to hear about Phil. I’m one of those keeping the spirit of WW2 radio alive with my BC-610-E, BC-614-E, O-39/TRA-7 FSK, and BC-324 station. Great production; highly informative.
That will be me tomorrow! I have my arborist line ready. Currently use a 150 ft fairly high long wire antenna. Tomorrow I am putting my athletic skills to the test! 73 from the other side of the pond.
It's nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. I use mine regularly when traveling. It's the best. I have considered changing the line, but haven't found anything better yet. Best 73, GL and Good DX!
It's nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. Great question, but no I never used SDR console. I did have an external SDR at one time and I was using the IC-7300, a DXPatrol and HDSDR, see: k0pir.us/installing-inrad-rx7300/ Yours should work as well if not better. Best 73 and good DX!
It's good to hear from you and thanks for commenting. I'm living in my camper in Alabama and hope to get back to my home QTH soon. No more moves for me either. 73 and good DX!
While I am really not a FT8 fan, I realize at times it's the only way you are going to get a contact. Nobody is on PSK anymore unless it's field day. LOL...this vid. has helped me tweak my IC 7300 the biggest help was the ALC adjustment. 73, from KA8DYD
It's nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. Same here. I'm in my camper (HiQ mobile ant.) in Alabama and FT8 has been my go-to mode because condx are very poor at this location. It's nice to make some QSO's even if it's short. Best 73 and good DX! Thanks again.
I know this video was posted (thank you!) quite a few years back, however I was wondering if the latest version of FLdigi excluded the "XML-RPC" (Rig Control) settings. I am trying to setup my Yaesu FT-710 for RumLog and FlDigi and hit a roadblock at this point. Still doing research to move forward but I thought I woul throw a "man overboard" in there in hopes you may have a suggestion. Thanks again for all of your videos!! They have been VERY helpful and appreciated!! -73 KQ4KIO
Thanks for commenting and I am glad to hear another Ham setting this up right now. I have a new MBA and will be setting it up soon for this. I’ll do an update when I can. XML-RPC is under Fldigi Configuration and Rig Control > flrig
Hello, on the ChronyControl when you are syncing time are you using an external usb GPS unit? If so can you make another video on how you got that working. I've been beating my head against the wall for weeks now trying to figure this out. I've been playing with gpsd which *sometimes* works but I can't get chornycontrol or ntpd to actually work with the gps unit.
Thanks for commenting here and Chrony is using time servers on the internet. I connect my laptop to my iPhone's hotspot when I need to be connected. I am sure there will be situations where Internet access isn't available, so using an external device makes since. Have you seen www.youtube.com/@OH8STN ? He had an external device with his portable setup. Thanks and GL, best 73 and good DX!
@@HamRadioAdventures Thanks for the reply. I've seen his videos where he talk about using windows tablets but I'll check to see if he has any mac solutions. This is probably going to turn out to be something a lot more simple that I'm making it but so far it's driving me crazy.
Thanks for the info on Macs and Ham Radio Rich. I just retired and got back into Amateur Radio after a hiatus since 1996. I have used Macs since before 1996 and have an older iMac (2011) for personal use. I wanted to upgrade to a newer iMac or Mac Book Air and use it for logging and control of the TS 440, but had reservations since I was unfamiliar with that process. I had the IC-10 chips installed when I had the new Lithium battery installed. I also found the IF-232 box I bought. Ready to go??? I hope. Your info is the most comprehensive and reassuring. I appreciate it. 73 - N4SHO - Roswell GA. ___ Just found the article on the Mac Mini! Now I'm thinking that route.
Good afternoon neighbor. I am in Alabama right now. Thanks for commenting and I too have a new MacBookAir that I want to setup. I'll go back and review some things and see what can be updated. Best wishes, GL, 73 and good DX!!
Well, I downloaded ACLog, made some contacts, seems like WSJT-x is logging my contacts. BUT, I cannot find any contacts in my log. IS there some way I can find the WSJT log somewhere and import it into this ACLog pgm?
Thanks for commenting. If it is logging to ACLog you will see it immediately in ACLog main window. To import WSJT-X log into ACLog, in WSJT-X, go to File and Open Log Directory. You should see your log there. It Is the .adi file extension. Import that one into ACLog and you'll be caught up. I hope this helps. Best 73 and good DX!
Ive got them all working together with my FTDX10 BUT if I want to shut down WSJT-X and do SSB I can't get RUMLOG to use the USB cable to sync the frequencies with my FTDX10. Any idea what Im doing wrong?
Thank you, It stopped working when I installed my ICOM remote control software. Your fix did the trick. Thank You for taking the time to post this video and help people like me out! 73
it’s great to hear from you and thank you for commenting here. That’s a great question. Vara HF is a little bit more complicated because you’ll be using two programs. I think JS8Call is easier for most people. As far as activity on the bands with these modes, it’s a little scarce. Both can be excellent in poor conditions though. 73 and good DX!
