I know this video is old, but I have to comment on the "sludge" part... Every Mastodon album is different as they are constantly refining their sound and some of their albums/tracks are sort of sludgy. The first few albums are faster, but they start to vary as the albums evolve. I love all eras of Mastodon, but lots of so-called "OGs" are not big fans of their later albums.
Honestly one of the best reaction videos I've ever seen. It's great seeing somebody actually getting into something and not simply watching the video and moving on to the next one.
i was so disappointed with this album when it came out. all these years later I'm still not the biggest fan of it. it represented a big change in their sound that persisted to present day and I've never really been able to get on board with it. self titled and Iowa just had so much aggression and high energy that nothing they put out afterward even compared to it. made everything else just sound like radio rock
This remains a reminder of my love, who i was so adamant in marrying her i dug and tore into the mountains uncontrollably, then i gathered all the metals and smelted it and forged it into a heart of gold, which no rock or light can touch.
I don't know if you'll see this HF, but Ben Eller has a video called "Stuff Mastodon Does" and he teaches how they do those harmonies on the guitars, as well as their tunings.
I don't know where you have been but if you haven't already I highly recommend a djent album for you to react to. The band is called "FellSilent". Unfortunately they only ever released one album called "The Hidden Words". They were my introduction into the Djent genre. The album will blow your fucking mind. It's a beast yet groovy at the same time. They were heavily inspired by Messuggah, SikTh and Textures. 2 of the members went on to start Monuments and TesseracT.
