I think the biggest mistake would be not dethatching / scarifying. I was using a dethatching blade on my lawn mower, and just this year I bought a scarifier. Seems like it'll be a huge difference, because I got twice as much material out! Also, after over-seeding, I covered the thinnest spots with some peat moss. I'd like to do the whole lawn with compost but I'm in a bit of a time constraint... I will start leveling with compost every month or so once I've got the new seeds established... if that's a good idea... I assume I can't go over 2cm at a time, and I would think about 1 month of growth might allow me to do another application???
just finishing work in my garden and you blow me out of the water. Wished I watched first. Trying to get my grass back in action for the summer. Lots of weeds and dead grass. Great content
I cut the grass for my grandma cause she can’t and I’m trying to make it look like a proper English lawn but I only come once a week so I can’t use the 1/3 rule.. what should I do
Despite my preconceptions, I'm thinking about battery equipment. That said, I don't see anything that can match the performance of my Husqvarna 522HDR75X!
Hi Robbie another excellent video, I appreciate your calculations just wondered if you had a video in mind about using Ammonia of Sulphate, Iron of sulphate and seaweed all in the same knapsack sprayer speeding up applications and if indeed you would recommend as such? I understand some products may congeal so might not be a good idea just thought it might be work doing and show calculations considering nitrogen content. Cheers keep the video's coming absolutely awesome.
These look very much like Dewalt rebranded and I’m watching this cause my dewalt has just died after hardly any work.. if these are rebranded steer well clear they are not the same quality as the drills
It's great to hear a fellow NI man doing videos about lawn maintenance. I've been working on my own lawn recently, mostly removing a lot of moss and thatch to reseed and fill in bald and thin spots so these videos have been a good reference. I don't have the 'fancy' equipment and tools you have but I think I'm getting the job done. I'm very tempted to buy a mechanical scarifier and aerator but I'll see how things turn out with the tools I've used. Cheers for the videos!
I hope you’re still making videos. I just found your channel with this video. Previous owners of our home had dogs that absolutely wrecked the back lawn. I’m hoping next year we can get sprinklers but I wanna learn all I can!! Should I work on fixing the lawn AFTER sprinklers? It’s not a huge amount of property but it’s not small either. So for our area sprinklers are necessary to keep the lawn healthy
Welcome to the channel 😁 Just do what you can, when you can. Lawn care should be fun, don't stress it. There are plenty of videos here that will help you 🙂
You should eliminate lawns and use sea weed to grow a healthy garden full of food and flowers for pollinators. Lawns are a waste of space and resources and provide nothing in return.
We dug a layer of mud and rocks from the lawn. Put down new top soil and pre turf fertiliser and layed new turf. We gave it 3 weeks. Grew nice and green and got quite long. Some reason my mrs went ahead and cut it herself. Looked fine for a day or 2 but then we ended up with alot of brown patchy areas and just grassless mud patches. What should i do to help it recover?
I would love to see a garden full of weeds rocks stones and a complete turnaround to lawn using only a mawer, scarifier, rake and hand held weedkiller or feeder. In other words what most of us have or can afford...
The test patch was cut out of a field, for the first video. The area in the field was chosen as it was at the gate I'm not sure how I could make it more authentic ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_B9K-xO6seU.html
Robbie some English body can’t understand u , I understand every word u say and I’m from Cullybackey but I bet he doesn’t understand me at all . Anyway is your leaf blower a single battery and does it run on a 5 ah cause that’s all I have (hey)for my power tools
I'm curious about bumps in the lawn that are higher than most of the lawn. A lot of spots could be leveled out but then there's still higher bumpy spots that need to come down. I don't want to level up to those high bumps. My lawn is so bumpy it's going to take a lot of soil i don't even want to think what that's going to cost.....!
This isn't what I want. I want rid of the lawn and I want to plant anything else than something that has to be mowed weekly. Any suggestions for getting rid of just the grass?
Hi Robbie, I have a large lawn and in past few weeks have noticed that creeping buttercups have started to spread all over the lawn. I’m thinking of hiring a scarifer and also spraying with diochpar. Just wondering is this a good approach. I’ve .6 of an acre. Thanks Rob
@@Premier_lawns_official I’m planning on hiring a scarifer this weekend and hoping that it might destroy them ? Or would I need to spray aswell ? Thanks 🙏
I’m just just about to lay down some new grass seed. Need to rake through top soil and then apply seed. It’s a new garden. At what point can I apply seaweed
how much would a job like this cost? I'm weighing up getting someone professional in or renting the equipment and doing it myself. Thanks for the videos, as a gardening noob, theyre very interesting.
Thank you for sharing the video, I enjoyed watching. When it comes to seeding your lawn, the best timing depends on your area and the yearly weather conditions. You should seed when the soil temperatures are between 10-25 degrees Celsius. Some professionals dormant seed, which is effective for reseeding bare soil areas or thickening up thin lawns, as it allows for better soil-to-seed contact. The key is to seed late enough in the year so that it sits over winter and germinates early the following spring. One common mistake is buying weed-filled seed from big box stores. It's probably more cost-effective and less of a hassle to invest in a professional-grade seed, as it saves money on herbicide applications and offers better genetics such as disease resistance and drought tolerance.
I tried your link for moss removal from a smaller area, but all I could see were gaarden tools. Which Milwaukee tool/machine are you referring to Robbie?
Great work guys. I love my lawn and I’ll try to get as close to your level as possible, but I let the mole continue its pleasant life. He loves my lawn too
I currently use predominantly Husqvarna equipment, excellent machines, but unfortunately are now priced out of my reach ! Just ordered the Milwaukee M18 brushcutter, so will see if it's up to the job!
I considered making my own lute from a pallet, but in the end I managed to reduce the size of the pallet (why oh why did I start with the biggest and heaviest pallet?!) and dragged that around. I still got reasonable results using some fine topsoil mixed with grass seed. I could not find any USGA sand!
Hi what if my lawn is full with weeds, do I need to kill the weeds first then apply top soil and grass seed? How long after applying weed killer can I apply top soil and grass seed?
Thanks, I laid a lawn 2 months back and cut it 2-3 times per week with a cylinder push mower, just started to feed it every 4-6 weeks, should I aerate with the fork after I scarifying with rake in autumn? Or aerate before I scarifying? Subbed Thanks.
I used and enriched topsoil on my lawn but ran out with a few meters left to do so poped out and got some westlands topsoil. It had loads of clay in it, stones, live weeds and is by far the worst area of the lawn in terms of successful seed germination. I've since gone over a few areas which needed a bit more seed with Jack's magic and those areas have turned a very rich green and are thickening up nicely.
