thanks for the review! I have to read this for a seminar and hearing your thoughts helped me get an idea of what I'll come across, I'm a bit intimidated by the text :)
Me perdonas mi español, no he escrito en tiempo.
Nice review! I just finished the book myself. I totally agree with you that Moshfegh "really knows how to keep a plotless story going" ... so many pages about waking up in the middle of the night and then taking a lot of drugs and watching movies to fall back asleep ... but I still found myself cruising through the story

Pyre is the first Tamil book to be selected for the booker prize. It's obviously a proud moment for Tamil Literature. I'm an Indian( from W.B) but can't pronounce south indian names properly but your pronounce is very clear. Glad that you liked this book...😊
¡You can read Catalán! So you come from Spain, don't you? I don't know why I thought you were from Latin America. I'm Argentinian by the way. Great review and great English.
A lot of the books on the longlist, including Standing Heavy, are not available at my library yet. I am planning to read Time Shelter next. Thanks for your interesting review!
i love books that blend the short story collection form with the novel + i wanna know more feminist lit from the 60s-70s, so thanks for this introduction!!
The Martha storyline was so much weaker than the other two! I don't think it did anything that wasn't done with Jess and Theo's storyline being added to the conversation... But overall a decent novel.
This is one of my favorite Iris Murdoch novels so I’m glad you loved it Marta. The length seems perfect and intensifies the tension of the story and it’s taut prose. You are so right about the morally grey characters, that’s something that happens in many of her novels as does this switching of relationships and multiple affairs. I’m planning on rereading it in 2023 and maybe another of my favorites which I think I’ve already mentioned, include The Book and the Brotherhood and The Sea, The Sea.
hi! thanks for sharing your thoughts on murdoch and the novel! i love the way she constructs her characters. I am saving the sea the sea to read in the summer, i can't wait to get to it!
