The size of the T-nut will depend on your substrate and what you are attaching to. I get from Ace Hardware, Menards type hardware store - and I take a sample substrate with me. Scroll down this page on the Witshend webiste, they carry 1/4" and 1/2" hanging T-nut kits, but that does not factor in what you are screwing into. Hope that helps! witsendmosaic.com/mosaic-tools-supplies/mosaic-picks-tweezers.html
Wow! This is awesome. I did small birds with wood scrapes and i have a drill press where i put a whole at the bottom for a metal stake. It is heavy like you mentioned. I think your way is better. Thanks for posting.
if you do not build an interior channnel for the pole to be stopped, over time the pole will work its way out the top of the decorative element. The weight of the artwork eventually wins.
What a beautiful and fun portrait! I love your choice of patterned crockery, and the contrast between your mum and the background. I bet she loved it too!
I have been waiting for this video since I saw the short with the beautiful bird. Thank you for putting out such great content and sharing your talents! I’m definitely inspired ❤
That is one fine looking 3 dimensional piece of art work! I'm not necessarily a fan of stained glass, but this was super pretty. I don't think tiles would have the same effect. Thanks for the video!
I have made some mosaic stakes a similar way. Why not just drill a hole & install & glue the piece of pipe so a pole can just fit in without having to cut the foam.
Thank you so much for the informative video (and the tip regarding cookies!). I'm new to mosaic-making and found this really helpful. Also, I liked that there wasn't a lot of music in this video, as I find music in instructional videos a bit distracting. Thank you so much for sharing this :)
Thank you for the clear and informative presentation! I am interested in creating a mosaic table for our garden and have a few questions I was hoping someone could help with. What (if anything) would you advise using between the Wedi-boards and the table base? (the primary goal here would be to add strength) The boards available here are available in a array of thicknesses, but are always 60 cm wide. I would like to make a table 90 cm wide and 200 cm long. Do you have advice on how to join 2 boards together in order to create a suitable width? Also, how do I chose the best thickness?
Some sort of support system is probably needed given size. There are 2 videos on channel about tables, they may provide some insights, I'll put links at end of this exchange. Exactly how engineered depends on the actual table construction. To join boards (I've done many times) a combination of A/R mesh tape, thin-set and creating a few channels in the boards to span some sort of counter strength - sounds worse than it is and easier if I can send you a photo. You'll need to email me, I cannot attach photos here. It is a great question, I'll add to my list of video to make. email: contact@maverickmosaics.com the table videos are: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--h48bfGDKx0.htmlsi=OrYhiGw5IxBadn0T. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IPRfPiXWvdc.html
Love this. Can't wait to watch your video. I couldn't quite catch name of the "sleeve" material. What is it and can it be purchased at big box home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes?
You’re welcome. Thank you. I’m obsessed with making a memory jug and haven’t been able to figure out what they used to use for the adhesive. I’ve seen them made with thinset but it’s not the same look. I appreciate the help.
Is Apoxie Sculpt what I see on memory ware style Jugs and bottles? It looks Like it’s applied and then things are stuck in it and then it dries? Kind of looks like an old school putty material. Thank you.
Probably not, as the tradition of Memory Jugs dates back long before Apoxie Sculpt came on the market. If we were making a memory jug today, it would be a good adhesive option with mixed media in mind. That is a great question that no one has ever asked! Thank you!
For exterior glass on glass, you need to use silicone or epoxy as adhesive. If you can obtain MAC glue in your country, that's great, but there have been supply chain issues. Use sanded, polymer-fortified grout, and consider using an exterior sealant-although many grouts have sealants already in them, read the manufacturer label.
English Translation: if I want to make a transparent mosaic, should I put it on glass or does it require an epoxy to hold the pieces against the elements? English Translation: I believe you are interested in glass-on-glass mosaic; the mesh method is not a good technique for transparent materials; you will see the mesh behind. Glass-on-glass adhesives include silicone products and PVA glues that dry clear.
The reverse method is most often recommended for floors unless all of your materials are exactly the same thickness-otherwise, you invite a trip hazard. Great video! I’m wanting to make a Victorian style floor in my entrance and need it to lie flat-what method would work best for this? I want to make most of it beforehand and then install it all at once
@@MakeitMosaics I hope so. I have two bags of small mosaic tiles of various shades of green, and various sizes and shapes, but no idea how to lay them out. I'm still thinking about it.
What's the longest you can wait between mortaring and removing the paper and still be able to clean up any mortar that has worked its way onto the face of the tiles? Thank you for your videos and sharing your knowledge with us!
I always come back to this video before I grout. I only make a couple pieces that I grout a couple times a year and I find this an excellent refresher. Thank you!
Weldbond ONLY interior, exterior you must use thin set mortar or silione. For inteior Wedi surface I would paint the edges the same color as my grout. Check out our video about lightweight substrates to learn why that is ok to do. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oKaVqfqS3sc.html
I made the bird, a polystyrene substrate, stained glass mosaic, video soon. Thanks for being a fan, please subscribe to the channel, you will get a notice when I upload new videos ❤.
Good question! this video may give you some other ideas, I try to bevel the grout in between the different heights, and always use polymer fortified sanded grout, non sanded will crack. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-swDmXYd3xmI.htmlsi=XVk7AH7X-TqivWbt
