I like this pattern it is simple and easy to make and can be experimented with on the body. I am wondering thoe if a person can not find the mylar bags like what you have been able to find if a mylar balloon can be used? Just wondering if it would be possible.
Yes, I would use any fairly tough material that can be cut to shape and has color or flash. Hit up dollar stores. Inexpensive gift or party bags and gift ribbon. Try it out and let me know! Thanks for watching
Most of the flies I tie on eagle claw hooks and they are the small hooks in the mixed packs. That being said, I’m not sure the size in comparison. Sorry I don’t have more info. Thanks for watching!
Hello! Just found your site, and happy to add a comment. I've been tying for some years with dog brushings, makes a nice buggy dubbing. Presently waiting for a combing of daughter's big orange long haired cat to acquire a supply of that fur. As you have demonstrated,it is a beautiful dub,and well worth collecting, and even dying to needed shades. Best wishes to you and yours. Fish hard, keep tight lines, and enjoy life! HAIR O' THE DOG FLYES!
I don't know how or why your videos popped on my recommendations since I know nothing about fishing, had never go fishing and know absolutely 0 things about flies nor had I ever searched for... but I'm staying because of the relaxing voice you have. No homo.
Thank you! I am not one who ties lots of the same fly over and over. I bought lots of feathers in fly tying packs when I was getting started and have picked up some capes here and there as needed. They just last me a long time. I actually still have most of the materials I started with 15 years ago.
Maybe you can find someone locally who raises chicks for the eggs. I know a man in Knoxville who got by "The Chicken Man" he raises lots of types of chickens for the eggs.
You should see my hand-made bobbin holders. I keep putting off buying some decent ones and keep using them but It's crazy how much I'm handicapping my tying by continuing to use them.
do you have any videos? I have only made a couple of my own tools. I bought a cheap couple on holders when I first started and they always broke my threat. the two I have with the porcelain ring on the end are my favorite.
You are correct! My goal with the channel is to show people how to tie on the cheap, and that they don’t have to use traditional fly tying materials. I am considering retying many of the same flies using the prescribed hook styles and sizes. Thanks for watching!
Robert Smith my great grandfather was a the doctor in Kirbyville. He built a getaway cabin on cow creek at the trout creek confluence. Took my first steps there! Love it as well!
4x4 Metal in this case it adds some flash, and weight on what will be the bottom of the fly. I could have, and probably should have, added eyes made from monofilament. They would be protruding near the bend of the hook. Thanks for watching.
