Why the heck am I watching this. I live here... however if you’re considering vacationing here, be prepared for super long lines for the beach. Half the time my family doesn’t go to the beach because the tourists take over and there’s no room, same with coast guard, which personally I think is overrated but eh, it’s ok.
Awesome small town USA, have been lived there for 5 yrs myself and graduated from Grand Haven High👍👍👍👍👍👍👍and it's has a awesome Sandy Beach by the lake Michigan.. . Missed this town greatly
WOWZER.... I was born in Michigan , however ; I grew up in los angeles ca, and this is so amazing seeing this. going through a heat wave in California, I cant complain 12/24/2017 it was really hot out here, seeing real cold ice and weather in Detroit. this is so amazing, how Ice can form into balls and ice pancakes. I must spend 2 week in Detroit when the cold weather hits just to have the experience of real cold chilling weather.
Grand Haven is on the complete opposite side of the state than Detroit. This is where the Grand River empties into Lake Michigan, this is also why see the large waves, they're coming up the river from the lake.
Grand Haven used to be the best place for the younger crowd to hang out on hot summer days back in 1997, 1998 and 1999! Every weekend, the strip was bumper to bumper traffic, people came from as far as Ohio and Indiana just to cruise the strip before heading out to the clubs in Grand Rapids after the cops shut the strip down for the night, was like 10 or 11 pm they stopped people from hanging out or cruising. Sadly, the city council with the backing of the older people who seemed to hate seeing kids having the times of their lives, implemented all these lame city ordinances that literally ruined the strip for us all. Now the strip is just old people, families and about 1/2 as busy as it was during the summers of 97, 98 and 99, if you weren't there for the years when it was at it's peak, all I can say is you missed out big time! My friends and I met different girls every day of the week, it was literally the best place to go a meet new people and have fun. I have so many dear memories there, and I fell in love more than once over the course of those years. Coast Guard was so hyped back then, there were girls everywhere, it was like heaven. It was an amazing time to be a young man cruising the strip with your friends looking for girls. You had to have a sick ride too! Great memories!! The crew I ran with was myself, Tito, as I was called by all who knew me, my best friends Josh (Smitty), Shawn, Mark, Chad, Steve, Matt, Shannon and a few others. You had to roll deep in case the "dirties" from Muskegon tried to pick a fight with you. My friends and I, we ran that strip for 3 summers straight, we had the best cars, the prettiest girls and we threw the best parties! I still love Grand Haven, love the coast guard festival, but I sure wish the town would lighten up on the kids that want to come there every day of the summer to cruise, hit the beach and meet new people, fall in love, and just have the best times ever. Let the kids have fun too, let them cruise the strip again like the old days. That town must have made so much money from being so packed every weekend and some weekdays! I bet if we looked at revenue made by local businesses back then compared to now, they made more back then. Grand Haven will be in my heart forever as will the amazing memories we made there growing up. Peace!
i am considering moving here, but I am not familiar with the jobs in the area. I work in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry (physical sciences). Does anyone know if there are these types of career opportunities in the area? Thank you in advance!
Delayed response BUT Grand Haven is only 25 minutes from downtown Grand Rapids which has some nationally renowned medical facilities and associated researchers and educational institutions. Living on the Lakeshore but working in GR can be a magical mix!
So i live in michigan, but i never visited grand haven side of town, and i love to travel a lot, so where do u think i should start? Whats out there, any specific points of interest or attractions? Thanks :-)

grand haven was my first taste of America back in 1994 and 2002. 17 hrs flight from Sydney Australia then a 3hr drive from Chicago seemed a long time ago. but what a time I had I stayed with a friend in nearby spring lake and loved the American culture.thanks for the memories.
I go up for a week to visit family during the coast guard festival, I love it, I wish my parents hadn't moved to florida or else I could have lived there -____-
