Man, it was embarrassing to watch the first time (and I laughed a lot to cope), and it's embarrassing now. 💀 ... Like why is she speaking like she's yodelling?! It's kind of bizarre to me that they'd even have these actors do this scene in swedish to begin with. Pretty much all scandinavian countries, I think, would be able to tell how BAD this is, and lots of scandinavians have and watch Netflix, AND The Umbrella Academy was one of Netflix's most popular shows around this time. So it's a big chunk of the viewer-base still, I'd think. It was a really dumb decision imo that was just for a gimmick.

I always wonder how much get passed down in generations. My grandfather moved from Alingsas. I identify with the Swedish conduct more than anywhere else and kind of get offended when someone is too comfortable. I have also been accused of being cold. Its odd.

To say Ö i like to tell them do the A or An sound coz that pretty much how Ö sound like. and Ik american keyboard dont have the [¨] button but I use that with o to create ö like how u make ü. Same with Ä u cna just put ¨ with A and u get Ä. Å is just the most complicated but its like say Oh.

So Norwegian has a lot of similarity to Swedish due to proximity, but it also has a lot of similarities to Danish because of previous Danish rule. By this logic, if someone's goal is to understand all three very well, wouldn't that makes Norwegian the best choice? Also, you talk about the dialects of Norway, but again if your goal is to understand everybody in Scandinavia, then studying Norwegian prepares you for understanding them better than studying Swedish does, right?

Maybe I missed this but when do you use the first conjugation group vs the second, what about the ska and kommer future tense (I don’t understand how to use them or why they’re not shown some places), and auxiliary verbs
@sayitinswedish
@sayitinswedish 17 дней назад
I did explain the difference between the first and second group. Only the first group is actually active though and can produce new verbs. I don't talk about the future tense here, since it requires auxiliary verbs etc. and doesn't have its own verb form.

as a Dutch guy, only learning Swedish later in life, and currently still not all that well, the scene itself was convincing enough for me that it was really Swedish, let's say much better then any scene in any movie or any series where they try to speak my language, Dutch, in a scene, they always get that WAY MORE wrong then netflix got this wrong. on a scale from 1 to 10 i'd have to rate anytime they attempt Dutch in a scene a solid 1/10 and for this Swedish i would award at least a 6/10 for the dialogue.
@sayitinswedish

Right, I... have to strongly disagree about your rating for the Swedish. That was a 3/10 if I'm being generous. I couldn't understand a thing when I watched it as a native speaker. No swede I've ever met in my life sounds like that. It was bizarre to listen to. It sounded to me like someone was using a joke-russian accent for a meme, except here they're not joking. 😭

It would be so easy to wipe out a nations entire financial infrastructure by attacking the EFT's and erasing the data-core of the financial holdings of the people. It would be even easier to simply access 1 banks data-core, corrupt it, then have all other banks try to rectify that data with their own.... Much harder to control cash. Even more so, metal coins that are their own value, like copper, silver and gold coins.

Very helpful and interesting. In Austrian dialect the "five to half something" or "five past something" is also very commonly used as well. I don't know Danish but I visited recently and they seem to use this closer to the English way if I'm correct? Swedish really doesn't seem to hard to learn for Austrians/Bavarian dialect, because while we do tend to swallow consonants - i.e. oftentimes the letter "r" gets skipped or at least it's never rolled - we practically also use an "å" aside the obvious use of Umlauts

Many years ago me and my parents visited the island of Gotland and we wanted to rent a car but my parents didn't understand one single word the guy at the car rental place said so my father being from Burträsk in Norland (north of Sweden ) replied in Burträsk dialect so the guy could not understand what he said either LOL so then they both started to speak more "riks-svenska" so that we finally got our self a car

I heard another explanation of på that made a lot of sense - when talking about "på bio" you in a place and you are assumed to be doing the characteristic activity associated with that place is that correct? So if someone said "i bio" it would sound weird, like you were there but just in the building not to watch a movie, is that accurate?

As some growing up in dalarna that last example would be "vaffö få'nt'ja de da"? because in dalarna the spoken language will usually put the "inte" contraction after the verb even if the written ´sentence would have another word order. It's really a thing everywhere north of Stockholm. And the absolutely most essential reduction to know if you happen to listen to any swede from anywhere north of Stockholm: is "änte" which is "är inte det" contracted into one thing. But written the word order would usually be "är det inte", so the word order is changed basically in order to maximally shorten three words into just two syllables.
@sayitinswedish
@sayitinswedish 17 дней назад
We do contract "är inte" in the Stockholm and central Swedish area to "ente" or "änte". Adding "det", however would probably result in "ärente" instead. We also have the word order you're speaking of but I think it's even more common norröver.
