When you were near the rear muffler I actually held my breath. The 121 and RX5 were at the top of the Mazda tree in their day and were very expensive and very suave when compared to other Mazda volume sellers 1300/808/Capella/929. Looks like yours originally may have been a manual given it has a dash gear selector indicator. Your expletives help to may this one funny video.
Crap car when Mazda made garbage grade junk (it's still low grade but at least they get past the warranty). Mazda made junk for years then Ford bought it and jumped out again a few years later when they realized they were a basket case.
Ford Motor Alliance is what hurt Mazda the most. Thankfully they've been independent for well over 10 years now and make a more reliable product than Ford.
I had one of those. Same color. I miss it so much. I can tell you eveything about those little Couriers. Want more heat? reach up under that little black metal box in the middle of the cab below the dash. Feel that little sheet metal plate? Pull it down a little more... you'll get more heat. I loved the metal dash. I would put my magnet business cards on it!
In my neck of the woods, the 71-73 Cougars were hard to find. Finally convinced my buddies, that the hardtop XR7, were definitely step up from 71-73 Mustang hardtop, or Grande. With Cougar, you started with 351C 2 2bbl, and 9" axle. Optionally things only got better!!! Sequential rear signals, rainbow steering wheel, those Cougar embossed hi back bucket seats. Leather/Vinyl. Still the most comfortable buckets ever!! Full gauges with tach!! Very nice muscle car to start with. My Mom had 71, new and 72 also. That's what got me started on them. Did not take much to have a great looking, running ride!!
The blue car labeled 'Chev Camaro is a '67-68 Pontiac Firebird with the '400' dual scoop hood, I had a Burgundy 400 coupe with pearl white vinyl top and interior, 400 engine (335 hp), hurst 4 speed, posi-trak and rally II wheels
I don't know a lot about Australian cars, but would like to learn more, possibly get your opinions on some of them. I DO know USA's cars, along with Canadian, European, and UK cars, having had over 1,000 plus cars myself (and 160+ motorcycles) and what I did not own, close friends did and do (1948 Tucker, '70's Ferrari's, many collector cars). At present I'm at 12 'forever' cars, my son Nathan (Nate) is still going through cars and has 6 currently, just getting another 75 Pontiac Grand Prix (51,000 miles, nice shape, for $1500), he just turned 23 and has had over 60 cars, he has an ability to find nice cars very cheap. Don't know if you would be interested in any, we find way more than we can afford, and pass the word along, one currently is a 1960 Cadillac Coupe deVille, with paint blistered and plastic lenses warped by the fire that burned the entire (26,000) homes of Paradise California (12 miles up the hill from Chico, where we live). the interior is original and perfect and nothing else is damaged, has low miles, for $1500. Nate explains my enthusiasm, 'Dad is still 19 years old mentally and still has love for cars, where do you think mine came from.' Most of the cars I had were good condition, but I had a restoration shop and detail shop so could do whatever was needed. If you would like to see photos, my email address is larryfosterdetail@gmail.com if you send an email address that works for you, I will send pix . Do you have any info on fin Chrysler products of the '50's? Also curious if you still have the Mazda, and wondered how the Cougar is doing. Hope you and all you care for are all doing well in Covid time
I fell in love with Austin 7, at 16 years age, when one came up my street as an ice cream car. I bought my first one out of a wrecking yard for 5 pounds ($10). Yes, they could be a challenge to drive. I remember on one occasion at Brighton-le-Sands Sydney, Australia a wind gust came up and lifted Her up and sideways- frighted the blazes. out of me.....
@@nateseymour4491 I didn't realize Red Rock Canyon runs through SoCal clear to Las Vegas. One of the Imperial/DeSoto club tours (80 DeSoto's and Imperials cruising between 80-110 mph, the length of CAL, I live in Chico, CA, 600 miles north of where you were) we covered a lot of the Cal side, which from your video looks like the Nevada side. The Imperial club has meets posted on you tube, my '63 Buick Electra convertible was on 2015 Imperial Owners meet at Cambria, CA, and my '66 Imperial was on the Grandeur of the Sierras Tour, stay well.
I had several Cougar's ('67-'68 XR-7's, '70-'71 convertible's,) In over 50 years of having my auto restoration shop I had over 1,000 cars and hundreds of motorcycles, my son is following me, at 22 years old he's had 60 plus cars, my favorite of his so far is a '96 Impala SS. I had every year full size Mercury from 1948 through 1972, a '63 Meteor S33, and my favorite a '71 Cyclone with 400 hp, loaded, in diamond mist lime green, love the SCJ 429 was very fast, the short freeway on ramp near my house, would hit 130 mph by the top of the ramp. My problem is I love all big American and a lot others, wrote about my keepers, Had a '71 Riviera GS 455 Stage 1 in emerald green with white top and leather interior I loved, but let a 'friend' use it, never saw him or the Riv again. How is the Mazda doing? I still want another. If you feel comfortable sending to my email address, I can send pics of restorations and a bunch of my cars, I'll keep your email private. I kept the email address from the detail section of my restoration shop for friends to send to larryfosterdetail@gmail.com I've always thought of seeing Australia, but planes I've been on try to crash and ships try to sink, so far, been safe with cars. Have friends there, one of my restoration crew grew up there. Don't know if you want any California cars, two locally a 1964 Imperial LeBaron 4dr ht, good body, engine and trans rebuilt, 55,000 miles, fresh tires, nice off white interior, the other a '60 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, dusk rose (deep metallic pink), fully restored but went through Paradise fire (burned the entire 26,000 homes plus businesses) but good news is the only damage is paint is heat blistered and some lenses melted, each is $1500 US dollars. I know George Laurie from the DeSoto club when he attended a California meet, he does reproduction lenses for collector cars, he's located in Australia. Hope to hear from you, like having car friends around the world. Thanks for your reply.
