I love Lao Spices!!! I added some Lao BBQ to some air fried potatoes and it came out so goood! Also, I have a theory as to why the “Larb” spelling exists. I believe it’s based on the British anglicization of the word “Laab”. In many British accents, they don’t pronounce the “r” so when they pronounce “larb” it sounds closer to “laab”. When Americans pronounce “larb” it comes out sounding wrong since we actually pronounce the “r”. So annoying hearing people pronounce it wrong. We eat Laab not Larb 😄
Its actually easier to cut partially frozen pork, the extra liquid you noticed was from rising thawing pork in water. Also have patience with caramelizing the sugar very low to medium heat. Good job for first time cooking thum khem. Also many varieties styles from Lao to Thai and also vietnamese.
Tum-kem "kem mean thick not salty" No need to add lemongrass. The original recipe is ginger. If you don't have dark soy sauce. You can caramelize the regular sugar. I don't use water. I use coco soda instead
I'm glad my parents never laid a hand on us. Most I got was a metal spoon muk kok to my head. If my mom got mad she just threatened a punishment, while we would run and hide in the closet and laugh, because we knew my mom would not hit us. She threatened us a lot. That was her way of getting us to listen. Definitely understand mental health. I dealt with mental health with my own dad. He came over to America as a normal as can be, but mental health kicked in and I lost my dad to it a few years after we had arrived. The state took him in and cared for him. If my mom had not taken us away, we probably won't be alive today. I was 11 when it all started. My dad passed away when I was 35. So I know the impact and importance of mental health and how it can affect us. We become a victum of our childhood or we survive and avoid things that we didn't like growing up. I always tell my son dont do yo your kids what you didnt like done to you growing up.
Hahaha! Bro when you first tasted it and realized it was good, the relief on your face was priceless! I know that feeling so well bc we’re always trying to cook something new too 😆 I also follow Harris and Saeng too! Good job man
Eastern European countries are just like Asian parents, I’ve never been told ‘I love you’ but I realize now I didn’t need to. To us, Americans over do the hugs,I love you’s, etc. but don’t really care about each other when it comes down to it.
