We had zero when we moved into an old cottage in Wales with a ton of sand in the front room , our possessions in boxes , a paraffin heater , and ironing board as a table we would make tea with a kettle on the fire , an outside lavatory I have kept the old kettle to this day as a reminder , so in short if anyone say's Britain was well off ... Only for a few

Excellent. Funny at times but sad too. She was if it was real life very sick, an infantile sort of sickness. He loved her since they were children and he grew up she didnt. Locked in a childlike damaged world so of course she would need that type of husband. When she said she hadnt cleaned her teeth at end such a childlike response and a childlike unawareness of the damage she caused. Sad for him as he thought it could have worked but realised he had to end her life 😔

19:47 - I do love the Brits - when an emergency comes, where it was 1974 three day week or the 2020 pandemic, they worry in case they are going to shit themselves and so stock pile toilet paper. Pathetic. Why not think about food and drink, rather than toilet rolls?

18:55 - I see the idea of duvets had not reached England by 1974? I am joking, but it does seem that most houses back then just had basic blankets. Probably not until the 80s or 90s that duvets become more common?

I’m watching this in August 2024. Labour have just got into government. Everyone is expecting positive outcomes but….. this script could be from today.

When I read the Sherlock Holmes stories as a kid, Bob Peck was always what I imagined Sherlock Holmes to be like - thin, hooked nose, intense eyes. Shame he never played the part imo. When I read about Elizabeth I, Miranda Richardson is always what I imagine Elizabeth I to be like, probably for different reasons ("there are simply hundreds of Catholics who can't wait to have their heads snicked off...").

I worked with Janet a few times (I was a cameraman at the beeb, and she was a scream, incredible talent). She was Set Up to FAIL by Montgomery (He was known as 'Rommel' by the staff "Because Monty was on our side!" Monty and that UTTER CREEP Mackenzie, Undercut Janet from Day One because THEY BOTH wanted HER OUT. Little men with little dicks, hating a woman cleverer than they were. Mackenzie showed his hypocrisy in the documentary: he was moaning like a bitch about costs and the sheer number of people they needed, then when he had her Job...HE SCREAMED FOR MORE PEOPLE TOO! The budget to set-up and run that station WAS A JOKE!! The entire operation was a money-laundering tax-loss by the creepy Montgomery, a sinister little man.

0:25 Of course, at the time of the 1959 budget, people wouldn't have talked about "two pence", as two separate words. Before decimal currency came in, we used terms like tuppence, thruppence, sixpence, ha'pence etc.

Sidney James was Definitely a man he did what he wanted and was himself in everything a legend a man you could relate to. I can imagine him being a real family man even though that seems a contradiction to how he could be he needed his roots

I've never worked in a steelworks but looking down upon my former workplace which was a Ciba Geigy chemical plant used to fill me with utter dread, I hated the place utterly, great money but the shittiest place to work.
