Well this is a small blast from the past. 🚌 I still have HSR trolley memories from the 60's. 🚎🚎🚎🚎 Wow some parts of the city have changed, while others still look the same. 😉😄 Ps: Really miss that beautiful Birks clock in the downtown.🥰 Glad the city at least got it working even if its only visible at the farmers market.
Growing up in Hamilton without a car, Me and my family heavily relied on the HSR. And even now, though the high floor stairbuses are gone and the great department stores such as Zellers and K mart are gone. The memories still live on.
Something I've always wondered about those trolley. Buses that run via the electrical cables. What would happen if the bus were to go off the track of those electric cables and the cables disconnected from the wires above? Would the bus still be able to drive?
Location of filming: 0:05 Barton at Centennial (then Highway 20) 1:41 Barton at Nash 1:45 Portion of Melvin Ave that was removed to build the Red Hill Valley Parkway 2:30 Barton at the current interchange with the Red Hill Valley Parkway (yes, that was what it used to look like before the RHVP) 2:47 Another shot of the former stretch of Melvin 3:40 Another shot of pre-RHVP Barton 4:10 Barton at Strathearne.
I was a driver at HSR for 5 months when this video was taken and was driving 1 King at this time. I remember driving the 96, 98, 02 and 03 New Flyers. They were slow as molasses, made it even harder for a newbie to keep the schedule lol
Thanks for posting this, Michael. Brings back awesome childhood memories of riding these leased Edmonton trolley buses on 6A Bay with my mom when I was little circa 1992/93. Hard to believe that was three decades ago now! Do you have any TTC subway videos, preferably of the early Hawker-Siddeley, Montrealer or Gloucester trains? Or perhaps any Burlington, Oakville or Markham Transit bus videos from the 1990s?
From a drivers standpoint, where they harder to drive than a regular bus considering how you always need to be under the over head lines. How about when turning or at a junction?
I was wondering if I would see myself as a 24 year old in that video. In ‘91, was living at Eglinton and Oriole Parkway and always went past that corner.
Thank you for posting this!! I used to live on Dee Avenue which you showed. The Mr. Sub, the Coffee shop & Knob Hill Farms!! All bring back memories of my childhood in the 90s!
i work at the garage at wentworth street, 330 wentworth north Aka 234 birch avenue, nice to see some of the older footage you have on your channel. theres a brand new bus garage going up very very soon at this location, not sure what will become of the old garage but i imagine theyll keep it here. rumour at work is the hsr will split their fleet between the 2200 upper james garage and the new one. theyve bought up all the properties nearby and have been constructing a dome for the salt to store in winter so they can tear the old one down, then construction of the main garage will begin.
1991 is when my ex-GF lived around Keele and Humberside. I’d jump on the trolley bus or walk it. Fun, to look back at Toronto when houses and rent was cheap. I bought a house in ‘95 in the Beach for under $220k.
I remember the original BRILL trolley buses that ran in this area. They included the Weston 89, Annette 4 and Junction 40 that crossed each other in some of these scenes. The buses seen here are the re-built models with the GM forward look bodies. TThe TTC needs to bring them back.
We used to hop the trollies when i was a kid to get around town ,we would wait for them to stop then jump on the back bumper and hang on were the cables were housed ,when you wanted off you just pulled the cable and the over head connector would come off the buds would stop and off you go :)
@@danielthoman7324 not as stupid as your ignorant comment keep your fucking opinion to yourself you fucking tool you wouldn't last 10 min in the hammer with that attitude scumbag
I see 4613 in the video, which is still sitting outside of the Dart yard. at least it's sister 4614(named Margaret) got restored for the MATA(McKinney avenue transit authority) in Dallas, along with other PCCs
One word comes to mind wow! Because I've been living here at 24 Tisdale street south across from the no frills plaza and a stroke and cardiac arrest and colon cancer survivor and find this history interesting
First few minutes was DuPont Lansdown area where I lived...amazing how time adds value to thinga like in 92 this video wouldn't be interesting but now 30 years later we look back and go " man where do the time go ?"
A fish eye trolley bus....novel indeed. As to the driver...he seemed to turn to soon in the yard, and then the out of garage deal was probably positioning...Went through all of at Oakridge Transit centre for BC Transit in Vancouver, the poles had me in panic mode for ages after coming out of class...It is a nerve game initially, until you master the wire, and when to get the bus moving and let momentum carry you through some overhead. If you don't intend to be a master of driving a trolley...you will, like this guy, spend your time putting the poles back up....B T W...a rotten way to start a shift...he was probably late for his start point with that de wiring issue he had to deal with before he hit the street.
