This is such a beautiful song that I had to research who originally sung it . I often play it just to ponder over the lyrics, which I will often play over and over . Continued Rest Mr. Leon Russell and Mr. Donnie Hathaway.
i miss him and those close summer nights in the commune, a few joints in, maybe a couple mushrooms. listening to music on the maranz with the theater speakers. real low. Just mellowing through the night with joni, leon russsel, traffic, bonnie Raitt, little feet hendrix, led zepp
I dig his 1971 studio version with Leon Russell and Friends just a bit more. There is even a sister cooking during the session. Hey, you can't go wrong with a Blues and cornbread.
I was playing Rust with a friend and setup the in game audio system and set a random music station and this song played And then we got raided while this song kept going 😂
This is the song I remember, something about it that endures for me, and his appearance, but lets face it In 1972, we had Johnny winter, Alice cooper, tiny Tim sly stone ….I think he was hiding himself under the hair and top hat.
Everyone here, such fun we would all have reminiscing together about "the day"! (The "day" of "back in the day fame" 🥰)! One thing for absolute certain; yes there were protests, some riots, a war no one wanted, so many deaths, so much (what did they call it, the word eludes me) OH so much "civil unrest". BUT, we always come together on the bottom line ! which is "we wouldn't have missed those days for love or money!!! Once in a lifetime AND WE WERE THERE. 👍How blessed we never knew at the time! Yet, ALL OF US REMEMBER THOSE DAYS WITH LOVE AND INTENSELY HAPPY MEMORIES. God bless each and every one of us here. Definitely older, hopefully wiser, never give up, fight the good fight, confront lies with truth, hate with love, anger with peace, and pain with compassion; you know~ as we always did. God bless you each and your families. Thank you beyond thanks for this hour down memory lane. Listened a few times and replied to some comments.
Hes singing about the either/or mind game thats played. One sides ice and one is fire. One sides hate and one sides hope. All this or all that heres your 2 choices.
It's interesting how you can have no idea a person exist and yet know all the lyrics to a song he wrote. The Donny Hathaway version is the one I know and now I am glad to hear this original version as well.
