Duke fan here! I had a 2016 690 Duke and rode it for 35k miles in 2 years. My experience with the pogo front brake is stucked pistons. Or at least not equally moving pistons. But it will come back. I have the same on my 2020 790 Duke with 10k miles. I just accept it. Maybe it's because how we use the brakes? Maybe it sometimes needs some hard breaking? Thank you!
@@outdoorkreations7051 Sucks you ran into an issue. There is something going on with them for sure on some of the bikes. When I made this review at the end of 2020 I don't think the cam issue was known, or at least I wasn't aware of it.
So are you saying there should be no free play at the clutch end but a little at the lever end? What's missing to me here is an instruction on adjusting from scratch.
You should have freeplay on both ends. Where it's easy to get into trouble is to think you have enough freeplay by only checking at the handlebar end. There must be at least a little freeplay down at the clutch. The clutch lever at the handlebar has a long range of motion compared to the lever at the clutch.
Yep, definitely an option! For me I find that In the time it takes to go to the shop I can have it done, save some money, and stay in practice for making field repairs to damaged tires/wheels when far from help.
Hello, I have a question: why do you only have one brake caliper at the front? Kind regards, Geri from Tyrol I was able to read the answer in a comment below, thank you!
Sorry for the long delay. Haven't been getting notifications of new messages. I converted to a single caliper to reduce unsprung weight on the the front by about 7lbs. A single caliper works fine for me. YMMV. :)
Damn! You just saved me a trip to the dealership and $400! You rock bro. Much respect and appreciation. I just had to adjust the lever-get some free play and bam…ni more brake freezing. So satisfying. : )
Thank you for your review. I’m considering an upgrade to the 790. Would you say that this bike at 44000km is still a good option? That kind of kms fits my price range? Do I wait a bit and buy newer model with less KM? I also looked at the 1050 (stunning bike) but I do about 60% of my riding on dirt. So this would work better for me. Plus the weight is a massive factor for me. I am tall but light rider and love an agile bike. I’m currently on a g310 but it’s evident that I ride way too hard for this little bike. I need to sell it before I break it. 😂 Thank you.
Hey! I have a Norden Expedition and can’t decide between the Reckless 80 and Outback rack system. Interesting to see you remove the plastic panels and grab rails. My questions are : how can u pick up the bike without the grab handles and what is the total width of those set up? Do you have a comparable width for the Outback system?
I usually lift the bike from the handlebars rather than use a front and rear hold. I have no idea what the width is. Not mounted at the moment. I've heard good things about the outback system but haven't tried it.
I ran across a Yamaha T700 rear OEM tire that was the same way. Never seen one as tough to get off and I nearly threw in the towel on it. Options I can think of are - Remounting and going for a hard pavement ride with low tire pressure - or- Sitting it out in the hot sun for an hour -or- A longer lever bead breaker. Also, don't shy away from using a soap and water mix even for unmounting. As you make even small progress with the bead it will seep onto the edge of the bead where you managed to move it even a little and that will help as you go move around the tire working the bead. Goodluck!
Ok it's 11 years later but it's still cool to see a bike like mine getting enjoyed on a track-day! Sure does sound strong on the straights. Found this video on the FZ10A forum. I've got a 2001 FZ1 that I've been enjoying on the streets for 4 years. Anyway, that's all and take care!
Hi Windblown. I went back to review your excellent video posted on ADV.. I had a question. What's easiest way to measure that 3-5mm. free play at the plunger pin? I am thinking maybe bring to put a sharpe tick mark when the plunger pin is down and then when it goes up. Happy 4th. Kam
Thanks for the review. Wanted to say it helped me get an idea of what I was getting into. Ended up choosing its softer swedish cousin, the Norden 901. It comes with cruise and quickshifter enabled with no additional fees and has a 2 year warranty. Looking forward to putting some big miles on it 🤟
My camshafts are still ok. 35k miles (56km) on the bike now. I don't know if it makes a difference but I change my oil about twice as often as the manual call for.
Thanks for the video! Did you not need the heat shield on your exhaust pipe? Can you please share a link to where to purchase your floor jack? Thank you!
Great looking/sounding exhaust. Do you have a tail tidy with that set up? Mivv says it’s not compatible with a tail tidy. Do you have a video of the install?
Yep I'm running a tail tidy with smaller after market signals. The exhaust tip does route into the area where the turn signal is typically located on most tail tidys so they probably just want customers to avoid potential headaches. My turn signals "just fit" above the exhaust tip. I've seen some folks just re-route their turn signals up higher onto the bike itself to make everything fit if running a tail tidy. Bottom line - It will work, but you may need to get creative :)
Here you go: The route was developed by Adventure Horizons and they host the free GPX tracks for download on their webpage at www.adventurehorizons.com/
@@heretoride Why would you like it plain looking? My exhaust kit is in transit from supplier. Was thinking on how it hopefully stay and won’t go off. Got some reviews that it does goes of unfortunately as its being used.
Windblown, it’s been a while since a video. I’m actually watching all your videos on the 790, to see if that’s the bike for me. A T7 is a possibility, but really want the 790. Where are you at now in 2024 with your thoughts on those 2 bikes?
I haven't. But since you brought it up that sounds like it could be fun, as long as I don't add up the costs... LOL. Sounds like a plan while it's still frozen up outside. :)
@@Windblown My dealer had at least three of them on the floor, one of them was the T7 WR. I got the question if I take a look at them again. I hurried up to sign the new 890 👀😂
I make this mistake whit my r1200gs.... same system thand ktm.... my caliper, maybe 15 minutes after I do the adjustment, catch in fire.... I m lucky where I just make an emergency stop, some one wash is car in is driway ... we stop the fire with the water hose.....
