I’m experiencing something strange with versus online ranked games. I’ll go on a 5 or 6 game win streak, then I’ll be matched with teams who are lower, and my CPU will be terrible and their CPU will be amazing. I’ll go up to 695 to 700 around, and then I’ll drop back down to 645 to 655. This has happened on 4 different occasions. Has anyone experienced this?
Completely agree. The traits have ruined the game. My friend and I play the game as if you would play real hockey. Make good passes, defensive set ups, defect pucks, block shots, etc. But yet the game doesn't want you to actually play hockey. It wants you to cheese your way to victory. Poke checking, hitting, and stick lifting have to be revamped. I should be able to lift someone's stick without it being a slashing penalty 8 times out of ten. I also shouldn't be absolutely destroyed by a hit simply by them nudging me. I just wish EA cared enough to make a good hockey game. But they don't.
Huge hockey fan + Chen fan in general. This game in particular and the franchise in general has gone down the crapper. Very lazy cash grab. The nhl hould be ashamed to be affiliated with this crap, we need to get vocal as a community and let the lack of sales talk
Got my buddies on via game pass… game is absolutey same as 2020 and is still trash. Everything about it is half gas. Roblox has better tries at hockey games FFS
Thing that kind of low key bugs me a bit is in competitive CHEL -- the PMD is pretty much the best build. Feels weird playing with basically 1 goalie, 4 PMDs and 1 playmaker almost exclusively at a higher level. If you get it you get it. I would recommend in future changing builds so maybe... Defensive can't have say close quarters, or just nerf stats on some builds and up others. I mention this because this alone is a simple fix and too me a step in right direction. Working in development and on games in past -- figuring out weird physic stuff that is mentioned in this video will be quite the challenge due to so many variables at play within the games code, network (server), etc etc.
Yes! At 6:31 I screenshotted the final response from Rorster who is the one who contacted the creative director and he says Mike hopes to “crack down on ‘meta’ builds.” I assume this means trying to nerf OP builds and also make more builds viable. Right now on defense PMD is wildly better than every other D build- so good that you can even use it as a very good forward build like you say. It seems like this is something they are aware of and hope to address.
Ea nhl is a scam. They want it to be a bad game so people spend more money in HUT. You start with a shit team and you play against people that spend money. So you finally give up and put 500$ bucks to discover that games are rigged and that is why you where able to loose by only 1 point agains a team 10 overall over you
At the end of the day, EA wants kids who suck at the game’s money just as much as they want the money of skilled players who sweat trying to do the perfect play, so they’ll probably never make the game as realistic as most of us want. If they did, a lot of ppl would never be able to score, have no fun, and not buy their game next year
As much as I like the Devs response. The biggest limitation will be their yearly releases. I don’t believe it’s enough time to make the proper fixes to this game unless they take more time to make the game.
I don’t know if it’s the biggest limitation, but I think the game would benefit from taking a year off to make some much needed fixes that have been problems for years.
Puck protection on right stick ruins everything.I feel i can't do anything because i accidently protect puck. And when holding L2 in offensive zone player should not tackle anything
Thank you very much for making this one video and now getting an answer from the developer so that you can finally see what's going wrong in the gameplay of this game 👌
I know there are people out there who really like this game, and I definitely do have plenty of fun moments. It's just frustrating when that fun is so consistently interrupted by bs. I really hope this team can turn it around.
Also the blatant favouritism for the online servers. HUT by a mile has the best servers in this game (which is no praise by any means). But seriously? Why in the world can I play just fine on HUT but on every single other online game mode I lag like crazy.
My friend and i have played since 2001(couxh sesseions and single year modes...now we are fully done with buying this game. Chel is beyond broke..glitch goals gavent been fixed for 6 years. Its trash. They now made realistic goals(one timers) almost impossible to connect on. We are fed up and are no longer going to support this product.
Man that's sad to hear. There are a lot of problems that have been in the game for so long it makes me wonder if the team is not aware of them or are just unable or unwilling to fix them. I don't think one-timers are "impossible" to connect on but what should be slam dunk plays feel less like slam dunks nowadays so I hear ya there. I'll continue to be cautiously pessimistic about the future of the game, but Mike's response is at least a little encouraging.
First thing I'd like to say is thank you so much for mentioning my video in yours. I'm honestly grateful that you did this considering your voice is alot louder then mine. So thank you so much for bringing attention to the video and things covered in this video. I am so glad mike gave the time to watch both of our videos and hopefully we see real changes soon. And also hopefully we can collab one day on the NHL 25 trailer or something and give commentary on what we think. Again thank you so much i really appreciate it.
Buddy this content is so good. I love the points you’ve brought up, and hearing from Mike especially. The goalie clips are so classic. Really happy for you man. 🥲
The biggest thing that I want is consistency. This game plays differently everyday you jump on eashl. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to work on to be better when one night everything goes right and you can’t lose and the very next night you play the same and you lose a bunch of 1 goals games you dominate.
I do like the transparency, and the possible direction of the future. I feel the game has gotten worse since NHL 20 every year bottoming out at NHL 23. NHL 24 had some fresh ideas, but it does seem like they wasted time on total control and pressure. They almost backed it out completely through patches. Still have a lot of the same old glitches and poor menus. Eventually I think NHL could be 3 games. The traditional NHL annual release. A subscription based HUT game. And a subscription based EASHL game.
The transparency and communication between the devs and the fans of this game has been really great the last couple of years. I just hope that translates into a better game soon.
Aside from that, total control needs to go. Things like the Michigan shouldn't be one button moves. That, and the spamming of hip checks are ridiculous. Those used to be skilled moves. Now anyone can do it. It takes the feeling of accomplishment away.
100%. It's hard to imagine them introducing it and then just immediately getting rid of it, though. At the very least you shouldn't be able to play with those controls in club or competitive play. Something like that.
Its easy when they make total control mode where your 4 buttons press and easily pull out these moves. I especially see myself having no choice dyring things like HUT moments on Superstar where i get BS cheesed every possession and I cant even move with the puck 1 second without getting tossed around. It gets frustrating
I think there are many flaws with the game, and I used to get super upset and throw my controller and shit. But I realized I'm a grown ass man with a career and ambitions, what am I getting upset at a video game for? Game is way more fun when you just accept the bullshit and just have fun with your friends
Well they don’t make the call correctly half the time, I think that’s the bigger problem. Who cares if there’s a review function if they’re going to make the wrong determination after you challenge?
My favorite is playing hut vs bots and you can tell they're about to score a goal because hits and pokes do nothing. you either bounce off the player or you somehow miss the puck. it makes it feel like the game is tilting the ice and punishing you for playing well sometimes.
I'll be honest, watching this clip, you could have told me it was the same game I last played in NHL17 after playing for about 15 minutes and just shelving the game forever after that, and I would believe you. I still see the same awful passes and animations I saw back then that had me going "I swear, this is the last time I buy this game". Honestly, best choice I made was to finally just stop buying the game. EA has made it clear they only care about one thing...and that's HUT players they can milk for money while letting every other facet of the game keep getting worse. Sadly, thanks to HUT players, losing the career mode and offline players doesn't really matter, because what's $70 for a single game purchase matter when you have someone who will pay that $70 and then keep paying? But even if I'm not changing the game by not playing (which looking at these clips, I'm clearly not. Still seeing the 360 spin from a guy who could just easily catch the pass and skate backwards like at the 1:00 mark, the same consistently bad goalies and absurd inability for the AI to even stay facing the puck and puck carrier while moving around instead of constantly spinning and running everywhere). The game looks stuck, and while it's not being made better by my not purchasing it, my life isn't being made worse by purchasing a game that just stopped being fun to me to even play. I spent so much time trying to find the right set of sliders and being annoyed at the AI and goofy animations that I finally realized I would just be happier not playing it at all. So far...so good. Maybe someday someone else can get a shot at the NHL series and focus more on gameplay than on all of the goofy stuff...but until then, I'll save myself the frustration.
EA has to stick to the copy, paste formula... I agree with 100% of what you're saying and the last NHL game I bought was 21 but you're asking them to do so much work
I'm mainly a hockey player and fan but I recently went through the career modes of all sports games (NBA 2K, FIFA, Madden, MLB The Show) and even though I play the NHL career mode because I LOVE hockey, it is far and away the most removed from the real sports it's trying to simulate. If you look at any AI player for 3 seconds you will see egregious forward/backward skating, everyone running towards the puck, everyone getting in the way of their own teammate, never any structured plays either out of defense or in the ozone, just every AI dude has a spot they want to stand on and get to.... it's comedy. To your point about having to represent attributes I initially fully agreed, but what I noticed in other games is that they represent attributes by VISUAL misplays, an overthrown throw to a receiver or a ball fumbled on pick up in the show, that's low attributes. A puck glitching through a stick to 'represent attributes' is just the shittiest, unpredictable, gameplay. In terms of "poise", I think it was the same as 'intangibles' in 2K, a nothing stat to boost certain Overalls of players who would be two low overall based on their actual given attributes. Man this video is awesome, I find myself agreeing with all your points. The worst attribute is 'hand-eye' which just means you'll lose pucks that you passed perfectly because your player will receive them worse than an 8 year old with a wrong sided stick for no reason. One thing I would add is that I miss the opportunity to call set plays to trigger teammate behaviour. Like a default breakout stretchpass or all forwards coming low to break out together and so on, so many opportunities where hard coding could clean up this mess so easily.
