This was an era that showed liberal activism being cleaned up and mainstreamed under the covers. LiveAid/BandAid/Hands across America were such efforts. The hippie movement of the late 60s never died it just changed forms. A worse form, I'd argue, as it now involved virtue signaling. And a chunk of that money went to fund arms for terrorist groups in Ethiopia, because in the middle of feeling good about themselves, the promoters and acts didn't realize the real cause for the famine in the first place was the Marxist-Leninist junta that was in political power in Ethiopia at the time.

yeah Reagan was soo liberal when he called al qaida "freedom fighters" and gave them guns with free CIA training lessons !

I'm glad you bring that up. What happened in Afghanistan in the 80s was a proxy war between the Soviet Union and the United States over those same Marxist-Leninist viewpoints that the Soviets were attempting to support in Afghanistan as well.

@@BananasananaB So supporting Islamic t*rrorism was the reasonnable thing to do? Do you read yourself? How was the USSR communist? It operated on a centrally planned economy, which was not dissimilar to neoclassical economic principles (Leon Walras's theories do fit the USSR to a T). btw, you have serious reading comprehension problems, you accuse the "muhh liberals" of blindly following communism for helping civilians in need but at the same time you totally support Reagan's decision of helping t*rrorists which ended up causing 9/11.

Mickey Thomas was saying the reason they dropped Jefferson from Starship name was because the Jefferson name sounded too '60s and '70s. What he didn't mention was Paul Kantner left and he didn't want the band to continue on as Jefferson Starship. I supposed there were legal reasons Mickey couldn't say the truth at the time or not to get more upset.

I never comment. This was a great video. I know lots of people I know who would like different people interviewed, short but unique, snips of sharing, voices and early honesty. Great stuff. I check out your other videos. Good job.

I watched Live Aid on a 12" black and white sitting at a picnic table under a beautiful blue sky. I watched Howard Jones, Queen, Duran Duran and most everyone in between. I graduated in 86 and then the chaos started.

I loved Madonna when I was a preteen. Had the lace gloves and black plastic bracelets. In 85 I was 10 and Madonna was still very relevant when i was 11 and 12 so I was obsessed then when i was an official teenager i found rock. My lifetime fave band is GnR but I still look back on Madonna fondly. GenXer here born 75!

I was living at the Hollywood Royale apartments on Yucca and Highland and working at the Donut Stop while going to Musicians Institute in it's last year at the old actors studio across the street from where Musicians Institute is now. I was so glad I went at the old location. That run down building had so much character and probably a few ghosts. Watched Live Aid right in the Donut Stop (it's now a 7/11 minimart, but I see it was 'Highland Donuts' until 9-10 years ago.)
