The Ann Arbor Railroad's first route was from Frankfort, MI to Kewaunee, WI. Also, your mention of the railroad being sold on April 1, 1979 and the locomotives being scrapped is incorrect. The Ann Arbor filed for bankruptcy in October, 1973 after defaulting on a loan used to convert the SS Ann Arbor no. 7 to the MV Viking. The Ann Arbor was to be included in Conrail but the State of Michigan feared most of the AA would be abandoned and purchased most of the line from the bankruptcy trustee. The state of Michigan used Conrail as it's designated operator from April 1, 1976 to October 1, 1977. Conrail diverted as much traffic away from the Ann Arbor as it could and on October 1, 1977, Michigan Interstate Railway Company became the new operator for the state of Michigan. Subsidy disputes between Michigan Interstate and the state of Michigan resulted in the shutdown of the railroad north of Ann Arbor (and the car ferries) on April 26, 1982. Most of the line eventually came under the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railway and most of the AA locomotives were transferred to the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railway. Michigan Wisconsin Transportation Co. operated the City of Midland from 1983 to 1988 when it was discovered it had rotted boiler mounts. They then brought the Badger out of layup and used it until November 1990 when MWT shut down. The Spartan had been laid up in 1979. The Badger sat idle until Conrad purchased the three ferries in 1991 from the bankrupt MWT. The Spartan is used as a parts source to keep the Badger in operation.
This is a visual medium. Please leave a picture of the ship up while you're narrating. The blank/black screens are irritating. Otherwise great video. Thanks!
I would edit my first comment, but for some reason I’m unable to do that so here’s a second comment. The transcript is also bad-e.g., names of cities are so badly transcribed it’s impossible to know what places are being referred to.
@@nancyaustin9516Hello I see what you mean and I have talk to some other people and family they said everything sounds good so it must be on your end and everyone will have mic issues
I applaud history videos like this, but the sound quality is terrible. It’s often difficult to understand what’s being said. I guess it’s good then, that a transcript is included.
@@lindaborgert589 well here is why one there where only so many pictures I could find of the fitz and yes I would have like to put more but towards the end I realized I could have put more and that’s on me and two there where not a lot of videos or pictures of the inside of the ship if there were more I would put a lot in. Hope that answers your question and have a great night!
@@alexanderljung9277 so I tryed to get more pictures of the Eastland but it was not a well photographed ship, I also would’ve liked to get more pictures of the interior, but the only thing that I could find at the interior was a picture of a staircase, but it wasn’t very well
@@Calvbread I wish I love his videos they are so good but I have no clue how to do that stuff and I have play video game and built my own computer you would think I would know🤣
As a 21-year-old native to the area. The Fitzgerald is a big part of my life. Being the shipwreck that got me into shipwrecks. Didn’t know the queen had a sister. Also, I wanna add on really good job on this. I’m gonna go through your channel and watch some of them. You’re really good at this.
