I have yet to hear an East Indian of substance call himself, family, relatives, friends, and/or flatterers "Coolies" and/or "Madrass" or "blahk Coolies". They see themselves first, second and last correctly as (East) Indians - not Coolies or Madrass Koohlies, or "blahk Coolies".
