Gosh this is so cool why are some you tubers so popular that only paint dollar tree crap when you actually make stuff? Kudos
@diyem
@diyem 3 месяца назад
Oh wow! Thank you! 😊 That's so nice! I assume you didn't expect me to seriously answer this question, but here it goes: I think it's because I'm not as active on RU-vid as I once was, you gotta constantly make and put out videos, but also, people love making inexpensive stuff look high-end, so it's nice to watch transformations just by switching up the paint. I used to work in an art store, and I remember a lot of people telling me that they didn't have the time to make stuff, but buying something cheap and just adding paint is cost effective and great for time! I assume that's why they're much more popular than me, but I'm sure there are many other factors at play. Either way, I appreciate your sweet comment! Thanks for watching, and I hope you have an awesome one! 💖💓💗

Good video! T.Y. for sharing! Tips: you could also use E6000 with the hot glue for added strength. And, using a foil pie pan is great for resting glue gun on. Done it for years! 😀 Diana
@diyem
@diyem 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for your comment and tips! Yes, E6000 may give it some added stability, especially if it's on a slippery surface, but I've had these boxes for a few years now and they're still holding up well using just the hot glue, so no worries there so far. 😀 Also, yes, a foil pan is probably better than what I use, but mine is smaller and easier to store to be fair, and I don't fully care that it gets messy, but if someone has better storage and prefers a better thing to clean up, the foil pan or a silicone sheet may be a good idea to use! Thanks again for your suggestions! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 💖

how did your designs come up so well? I have one and the result was horrible. I made some socks and the illustration is all blurry and not defined whatsoever.
@diyem
@diyem 8 месяцев назад
What program did you end up using? I used Illustrator, but if memory serves me, I think I saved my file as a png in Photoshop when I used the sock template. I find PNGs turn out more crisp than jpegs. Jpegs are good for sharing online, but not when you're printing. I'm not sure if that was your issue, but I hope that helps a bit?
@user-ms2dw7cj4u

I think I used photoshop. To be honest it came out like a splodge mora like a design...but I was wondering if maybe it has too much tiny detail. sigh not sure. ; ___ ; @@diyem
@diyem
@diyem 8 месяцев назад
@user-ms2dw7cj4u Sorry, it's really hard to say. I find Illustrator works in vectors and not in pixels like Photoshop does. The design itself was already pretty crisp because of that. It still didn't turn out super clear, but the socks are a ribbed material, and if you did have a lot of tiny detail, it's probably not the best clothing item to show off your design. I used to work in mostly Photoshop, and things didn't turn out as clear until I started learning Illustrator. Maybe it just doesn't work out with your particular design? I'd say try out another clothing item with a smoother material, but I also don't want you to waste your money if you can't afford to do those kinds of tests. Have you just printed it on a piece of paper to see how that looks? Every printing company is different, so you may want to work on your design or try out another company, perhaps? There's lots of ways to test and improve. Good luck! 💖
@user-ms2dw7cj4u
@user-ms2dw7cj4u 8 месяцев назад
@@diyem Yeah I figure it was mostly that, expecting a very crisp design when its very detailed on socks its probably a mistake. I will try again with something simple. I use illustrator too but for some illustrations I just have to use photoshop. Thank you for answering btw haha I was a bit disheartened but it's ok I will just try again. Haha my husband reacted (it was a gift for him) like that girl in Antman "it's so ugly I love it!" XDD
@diyem
@diyem 8 месяцев назад
@user-ms2dw7cj4u Ha ha! I'm glad your husband loved it! Love his reaction! 😆 Yeah, it's a hard material to get a super crisp design on. Even in my video, my husband and I talk about that. I just give it a bit of leeway because I knew the ribbed material and the small design wasn't a great way to showcase this particular design. Also, thank you for asking me questions! I love seeing who is watching my videos, and I try to troubleshoot stuff with them if I can. It's nice to meet cool, new people! Thanks for commenting! 😀

I have always loved odd shaped bottles and jars. I find the easiest way to remove labels, is soak them overnight in a strong solution of bleach in cold water, just make sure it's safely out of the way of pets and children. I tend to do them in batches so there's no waste, after they have been rinsed with clean water, I stand them upside down on a radiater to dry.
@diyem
@diyem 9 месяцев назад
Thank you for your delightful comment and for sharing your wisdom and experiences on my channel. 😊 I have yet to try it, but I've also been informed (via other RU-vid influencers) that taking a heat gun or even a hair dryer and heating up a label usually makes it easier to peel off, and some people even report less residue is left behind, if any. That may also be something to try if someone is looking for a method using less chemicals. I hope you have a wonderful day! 💖

Hi, thank you for your comment. I apologize that I'm unable to upload such a video. I'm still figuring out how to film footage directly through my computer. If I figure out how to do that then hopefully I can upload a video such as this. I, myself will just rotate the pattern with the necessary dimensions in Photoshop or Illustrator or whatever I'm working in and will save it specifically with a similar name to my original pattern I was using but put Society6 at the end so I know what the file is for. I often have multiple files for multiple online stores, depending on what I'm creating and how specific the design needs to be. I hope that helps a bit. Have a great day! ❤

This is awesome ! Does it dry in the cup well? I want to try to use this technique to making dipping condiments.
@diyem
@diyem Год назад
Oh, I'm so glad you liked the video! Thank you! This is an interesting question. Thanks for asking! I'm sure eventually if you leave modpodge and a paint colour in a cup, it will dry out, but it may take a looong time. What may speed the drying process up is putting some sort of filler material in the cup or container you are using (if it's a see-through container you may want to paint the sides first) and then cut out a shape that fits inside the container to simulate the surface of the condiment you are replicating. You may then want to seal the sides and pour a thin layer of Mod Podge and paint that you are using to mimic the condiments' surface. The less you use the faster it will dry. Sometimes people use cut toilet paper roll cores, others use Styrofoam for the filler before cutting out a piece of cardboard to put inside for the top. Hopefully that all makes sense and helps you make some fun faux food! Enjoy the process! 💖

Yes, thank you for the tips! I try to use gloves now when working with the spackle. I did make sure that it's lightweight. Also, when you add paint, sometimes that's a good substitution for water, but it depends on how much you add. This was my first time doing this, and it was very trial and error. I agree heavily with your plumbing tips. Thank you for posting!

How can i make a cardboard box lid that is non-overlapping but sits on top of the box, like a flip top but thick like a box lid? I heard that it’s called a gussetted box or a fitted box lid.
@diyem
@diyem 2 года назад
Hi there Akua Asamoah! Thanks for the question, it's definitely intriguing. Are you looking to make a gussetted box lid with a round hat box design? I feel like it's probably going to be difficult to make that style of box if it's round. It might have to have more angles like an octagon shape perhaps and the flaps would need to be loose in order to fit inside. You'd probably have to make the base of the box the larger part if the lid needs to fit inside, so make it the way I made the lid (but more angled) and you may have to keep the lid attatched when you're cutting down the box or you may have to fasten it afterwards probably using a strong tape. You can probably make the whole box out of corrugated cardboard but generally and more traditionally those types of boxes tend to be made from cardstock probably for ease of fitting the lid inside easier. I am not a box-making expert by any means, just someone that wanted to make a project to eventually turn into fake cakes to make a fun gift-giving presentation and I just wanted to show people how to make something very low-cost into something that can be quite costly. Anyway, not sure if I helped with your question but I hope I did somehow. Take care and thanks for watching the video! 💖

Hi, thanks for watching and thanks for the question! I have used it once so far since I had received it. I was worried I got the wrong size of glue sticks because you really have to aggressively shove the glue sticks in unfortunately, though that meant they didn't fall out easily. It seemed to take a while to heat up but seems durable yet light weight. I admit I'll have to try working with it again, but the only problems I found seemed to be the tight fit for the glue sticks and it took a while to heat up. So some problems but over-all a cleverly designed kit. I hope that helped! :)

I never knew there was such a thing as a wood burning pen! Hahaha I feel like a wood burner would be a faster cheaper option, just because you just have one tool, instead of a pen and a heat gun. They don’t heat up too much (they’re the same temperature, or even the same tool, for soldering machines for electronics), they probably heat up less than the heat gun! In any case the pen is a cool alternative. I think the wood burning tool might give you nice dark burn marks though. I like how it turned out more than the store bought one too. It’s like an etch. It is light but I still think it looks really good. 👏👏👏
@diyem
@diyem 2 года назад
Oh hey thanks! Yeah, I actually think the bamboo wood may have been the reason for it being so light. The light brown matches the knots, wood grain and other markings in the wood. Now that I've sat with it longer I like it more now. I think it initially was a shock since as you can see in the video it became much lighter than it was. I've worked with wood burning tools (I've had one for years and used it on a few occasions) and I feel like it would've taken much longer to do this project, though cheaper yes. The marker was much easier for me to work with and did feel way less dangerous in the end. I'm always afraid of setting a heat tool down and having it fall over only to start a fire or something. I may be a bit too cautious with my crafts. 😆 Honestly, I'd rather not burn my place down though.

@diyem
@diyem 2 года назад
Yes! I definitely thought about that! I think the key to making things look edible is to make things look a little bit sloppy. If real food looks too perfect no one wants to eat it, but if it's pleasing to the eye but still a bit messy and textured people don't mind digging in. It's probably why I'm so hungry just looking at them even though I know it's not real food. I originally just thought food art is so cute and I'm actually terrible at wrapping presents but love giving interesting and fun things and thought why not make fun, memorable gift boxes you can either display or regift to someone? It definitely takes longer to make these than just wrapping a present but it was very fun to make a bunch. Thanks for your thoughtful comments Mark! They definitely make my day! 😄
