Welcome to the RU-vid channel of Chris Whiteman, jazz guitarist based in Richmond, VA.
I have been playing and studying guitar for more than 30 years. I was a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Miami, where I earned a bachelor's degree in jazz performance and a master's degree in jazz pedagogy. I taught full time at UM after graduation, directing ensembles, teaching sight reading classes for guitar, and jazz guitar lessons.

Beautiful illustration, Chris👏😁. I agree, when comping, so important to try to make whoever we are comping for sound as good as possible👍. Most of our time in combo situations is spent comping😁🙌!
Love this session, I found the C6 harmonisation kinda dull but CW gives such insight into the Barry Harris system here via a CMAJ7 harmonisation, this has made all the difference, thanx
Hey, great lesson. Love that you mentioned the importance of duration of the chords. Probably the best, yet most concise advice I've got on my jazz journey was "alternate between short and long chords when comping". One of the things that immediately clicked and made my playing instantly better.
