Unfortunately there isn’t a happy medium with these hair characteristics. We either want an Afro or definition. The only difference would be is a product change (not foam). I will mention it on my next live and give an example of why we can’t have both. As a reminder: outer texture makes it the biggest determining factor of holding product. Smooth and flat (which has more flexibility with volume and definition) and rippled outer texture (which can only do either or… definition or volume/afro). I go over these things in both books in my about section.
No finished product. It will be fluffy, big with texture on the ends. I recorded for technique for fine strands with tight curl and low - medium density.
You’re welcome! She has a very flat and smooth surface texture so her hair isn’t resistant to manipulation so her hair curls with ease. My hair couldn’t do this because I have a more ripple surface, a tighter wave pattern, and finer strand.
Hey Alveta! She actually just came in for a trim and I set her to leave. She sat under the dryer for a few and will probably take them out Monday. I did ask her to send me a photo. It’ll be more fluffy like she likes to wear her hair.
I wish I had started recording when I first started washing her hair. Tip: How your hair looks in appearance and feels isn’t an indication of hydrated it is. It can look and feel dry but remember hair is a performance. As your hair hydrates it will be apparent during the cleanse. It will take work but it’s worth it. Your cleanse is your foundation. Always take your time. This is general for everyone. Thank you for watching!❤️
I would have objected to her cutting to shape it after the blow drier. My hair would have continued to shrink and those ships would have left it very uneven
She wouldn’t have objected. People sit in the chairs of my salon because they trust me to educate them and deliver results, beyond what their expectations are. She loved her hair and had been back several times following this visit. She’s now several states away but she still carries the knowledge and know-how confidently in her continued haircare journey. Her hair also was more elongated because of my technique, application, and maintenance.
I love the way you did your hair and your customer’s hair in a previous video? Can you just use a blow dryer if you don’t have a dome dryer? Also, what do you call the cap that you sleep with?
Thank you! You can use a blow dryer but for optimal results a dome dryer is best for longevity and product absorption . You can go to coilcozy.com to purchase a Coil Cozy Bandeau
My hair literally just fell out n now it’s so short.. am I able to do this or any suggestions on how to grow it back.. I was thinking about locking it up to grow it.. I am so glad I finally found someone who knows how to do our hair.. Godsend..🙏🏽😀
Thank you for watching. I highly recommend conferring with your primary physician, a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss and a healthy haircare cosmetologist. I’d do these before loving which won’t alleviate the issue. It may cause tension and excess dehydration.
I know it’s easy to assume great care is taken when someone has a head full of hair. She came in because she faced challenges of dehydration, broken ends and long wash days. Water is necessary but it needs to be used properly. I see many people spritzing, spraying, and adding water in non-productive ways. If water doesn’t penetrate the cuticle, it won’t do its job.
I always learn something from you. And your bandeau brand is the best. I've bought a few along with one of your books. I have not mastered the wash and go yet because my gray hair is has fine strands yet thick like cotton with tight coils that tangle so easy. I use your method with a fine tooth comb to distribute product. But sounds like I shouldn't use foam at all and make sure the gels I use are not runny. I missed out on your webinar. I will have to catch the next one.
Wow 😮 there’s just so much out here about how to do a wet and go style and it’s really confusing if u have NEVER did a wash and go style cause Anthony Dickie says it should be soaking wet but that seems too much.
Everyone’s methods to get from point A to point B is different, however, how you make it to point C (longevity) and back again (point A) cannot be disputed. Science is science. Cream-based stylers used the way that many people are instructed to use them yield the same result… temporary hold and style on SOME hair structures, but zero hold on most “4-type hair”. I am one of the few voices for fine-stranded, rippled-outer surfaced, tight curls.. most of these popular methods do not work for longevity. Dickey is THE Moisture King. An OG that pushes frequent washes. That is solid advice across the board. I once did a Dickey challenge and washes my hair everyday. I loved the results and I think many of us would benefit from doing this.
This video was informative and confusing at the same time. The visuals really helped, especially putting the name to the gels. But when you got to the gela that worked, you stopped naming them and just said "strong hold gels". You did mention Got2B at the end but said you use it for edges. I went back to my inventory of hair gels and at least 3 of them say "strong, mega, or max hold", but none of them pass the drop test. You also said to look in the men's section, and I went to Target and it was just too confusing without being able to open the product and see the consistency. So I'm back at square one with trying to find the right product to keep my coils defined and frizz free.
I will be going over product in detail on my webinar on April 7th. Please subscribe to my email list! I will have the details within the next day or two. I have an in-person that will be changed to online. Stay tuned!
I know this has nothing to do with how u do ur wash and go and I’m still trying to learn but I have watched the Anthony Dickie’s technique so now I’m confused a bit but I am a 4C kinky texture. One thing I know is there has to be other great ways to do a wash and go. My natural hair draws up so tight but the goal is to get my curls to loosen and hang.
Well the first thing I try to navigate with those seeking my guidance is having realistic expectations. Second is to truly understand texture and that hair typing isn’t a thing? Is your hair coarse stranded or fine? Smooth and flat or more rippled? What about wave pattern? If you have a tighter texture it may never hang but having the right holding product will help with seeing the potential of your hair. I love Dickey’s method but know that it does require washing your hair often. I did it as a challenge and my hair was so much easier to work with every day. So, your curls will only “loosen” if you have coarse strands. Because coarse strands are so thick and heavy, they will hand from a curl to a wave. Fine strands will unfortunately always shrink.
It’s been put on pause because I’m preparing for our Curlfriend’s Getaway. I wish that more of you were coming along! But you can go ahead and purchase. Those who purchase will receive a discount code and bonus when the new edition comes out.
Wow! Took me a year to get here, but this is a *major* game change!!! I have thin, fine 4B hair. I thought you *needed* cream before using gel. But I tried this and instantly changed the entire texture of my hair and the definition of my curls. It's quick, easy, not as messy and *it lasts* ! Thanks for sharing this simple secret!
You are so welcome. It’s taking me quite a while to put info out but I am updating my guide to include product brands. Please subscribe to the email! I’ll have announcements soon! Thank you for your feedback!
Love when you do men’s hair, some people think we don’t go through the same hair care because we’re guys but hair is hair and it needs the same amount of work regardless if you’re a guy or girl 🤌
I have more coarse ripped hair and am having a hard time with detangling my hair. It almost felt like my hair was matted and it looked like a hair crime scene in my bathroom 😢. I'm trying not to be defeated and would love any advice you can give.
Try starting with your cleansers and water quality. There could be several things happening. Hard Water seems like the biggest culprit. The second thing is over-clarified hair. Hydrating (moisturizing shampoos) need to follow a clarifying shampoo. The last thing that comes to mind immediately is your normal shampoo. It may be stripping your hair. What cleansers are you using?
Thank you so much. I have been natural since 2017 The struggle is real You name it, I buy it, lol I am old school dont like going to bed with wet hair. I need a good moisturizer shampoo and conditioner Some say spray with leave in and water. Some say dont use leave in just a conditioner.? I am a natural hair product junkie and it is costly. I really need the products that will work for my dry hair. Thanks for sharing the truth. The model is beautiful, and so is her hair. You are the best in explaining what we need to do to our natural hair.
Start with a clarifying shampoo then hydrating shampoo. Thats where moisture is born. Spend time with your shampoo. You don’t need a leave-in conditioner unless you are high porosity due to color, heat or mechanical damage, otherwise this will sit on top and cause more dehydration. Thank you for watching!!
Hair does not need to be blown out (stretched) (I never straighten hair for a WNG), prior to styling. She was thoroughly hydrated. Most of my videos will show the process to prep the hair but I have more information on my Healthy + Hydrated Guide. It will be updated early this year.
You’ve got this! The foundation is the most important. Stick with and be consistent. I offer consultations if you’re interested down the line. My site is being updated and I also have a guide that you can download. Both links are in my about section. Make sure that you aren’t coating, using oils and try avoiding protective styles. They cause dehydration.
