Eleven years ago but feeling like yesterday. 2012 was an interesting winter in Morris Town, NJ. We were without power and gasoline for a week. I remember each day being a cycle of optimism (that we finally get our power back), anger, depression, then hope when we wake up the next morning we'd have power and water again. Thank you for posting this snapshot of how things were a few towns away from where I lived.

I have a 1967 Simplicity Landlord. I started driving it when I was 9. Im in my late 50's now. That engine was designed with leaded-gas which was like a lubricant compared to todays clean burning gas. I use an additive called Marvel Mystery Oil and high Octane gas. 2 things, your carburetor may need cleaning and or if you notice gas leaking from the weap-hole. There is a small brass flat head screw inside the throat. That maybe loose, loosen tighten and loosen about 5 times, until you hear a high pitch squeak, metal marrying, the last attempt crank it down good and firm. That will stop 99% of the leaking, this carb was designed with a weap-hole for a reason. My gas tank failed and I had a new one made out of stainless, muffler too. Change the oil often and grease, check fluids and this machine will surprise you how long it will last and how much work it can do. Attachments; rototiller, snow plow blade, mower deck, power rake, one blade plow, snow tire and chains...have fun.
There is no reason to use high octane gas... if anything the opposite is better, high octane these days has ethanol in it which is bad for these. High octane is only useful for engines with high compression...the octane rating tells you how detonation resistant the fuel is mowers have relatively low compression and are not prone to detonation unless you have the timing way advanced.
@Wingnut353 I understand what your saying. If it ain't broke why fix it. My Dad bought this mower from the original owner, our neighbor over 50 years ago. Sale price $1. We continued to cut his grass until they moved away. My Dad started using Marvel Mystery oil and high Octane gas when leaded-gas was no longer available, late 1980's. It's the original engine with points, and has never had a wrench on the engine. Routine maintenance. Hard to argue with success. But thanks for the advice.
wowa! when you swung the seat up to get at the trans -- nice! New Simplicitys make it so hard to work on the trans. So ... these old Simplicity had something like limited slip diffs? Also, I have a Cub from same 1960's era and luv it except for YELLING over the old Kohler at full throttle. New shielding & muffs have made engine noise more bearable these days. I can talk over my new Simplicitys B&G even at full throttle.
If I know right, the engine is a model 243431, type 0123-01, and code 6509301 (built on September 30, 1965). These can be found on the lower left-hand side of the engine shroud, below the air cleaner assembly.

The lift rod....from the factory it went beneath the foot rest. There was an extra piece of 3/16 steel, about 7" long, with a notch in the middle. The notch goes on a fulcrum under the foot rest, and the other end has a hole in it. Put a bolt through that hole and the hole where you have yours attached, on that little lift arm. I didn't get a manual with mine, it took me a little bit to figure out how the puzzle went together LoL.
ard to tell from the video - -because there was not a clear view -- but it appeared the belt for the mower was in the outside pulley of the PTO -- difficult to see because you moved past the PTO quickly --- but the correct location is the inner pulley
My grandfather had that same tractor, I was kind of pissed I didn't get it, I had an uncle that took it used it a couple times and got rid of it years ago.
Hang onto it and take good care of it , their all turning into family heirlooms and the collectors market is growing like crazy for vintage garden tractors .

Are the shocks you put on front extended? Like are they the same size as the factory that were on there or did you get a little longer one's for the 2" of height added with the 2" spacers, leveling kit? Thanks! I was thinking I'm supposed to get a little bit longer shocks in front when I put my 2" leveling spacers on. Mine look just like yours! Almost ready to install them, just trying to figure out which shocks to get. Thanks!!
I was struggling to take might lights out. Somehow I was able to remove them after the lens came off. And installing the same hard time because the clips got in the way and even though there is space still no space to work with. Eventually I was able to fit it in and they look nice I think majority of people have trouble replacing them

Hi , I just bought a Bolen's 1250 large frame . Mine was freshly restored . Ever last nut bolt was bead blasted . Every bit of the sheet metal was dipped striped and epoxy primed and frame heavy metal was powder coated and the tin was with Base coat and clear coat . Then it was carefully put bake together . The clear coat went over all the new stickers . It really looks better than new . I love this size of lawn tractor . It looks like a tractor and built like a tank . Would I trade this for a new lawn tractor ? Well no . Not unless it would be a true garden tractor with a Kabota engine .
My dad bought me a landlord with _all_ the attachments back in 2002. Used it year round including snow blowing. Still got it but it's gonna need a new seat
The lift arm Is that factory or did you make it, mine is straight. I just got the blower and the bracket by the foot rest. I did not mount the blower yet but I cannot see How a straight arm is going to work, your arm is curved and seems to flex when you lift
