It's ok heating up wires with charger, I use copper studs stretch it out with copper wire, place foundation on top and go over with a hair dryer and took a bit of practice but works fine for me.
You put the piece where the holes for the bees to get out, IN the big compartment. So how do the bees get out? And: how about the results from this trap? How many hornets caught? How many bees still caught by a hornet while being in the trap?
I had a feeling you would stop to find the Dyson Vacuum going on in the back ground and start a new show on suction forming with wax foundation using a Dyson. Seemed to be the person that uses tibble to produce a form generated in the 1200 for a stroke of genus. I was on the tinkering track and like the video but on to programming.
If I had my choice of working bees with someone I think Dr. Sammy Ramsey would be a good choice. He comes across as warm, genuine and very knowledgeable. I loved the story about his father's bees.
What a good way to start the day listening to Thomas Seeley. His research motivated me to change my approach to beekeeping through the study of wild nests. I have several wild nest in tree observation posts and many hives in hollowed out logs. Studying the role of propolis builders and swarming in the wild. Thank you Thomas Seeley.
Currently filming a swarm box that was previously occupied and has brood comb fixed to side wall. Scouts have been at it for about a week now and yesterday several scout bees have been circling approx 4ft above the box at a high rate of speed. I’m assuming this is a good indicator that they’ve decided on this one and are about to swarm in?
Hallo, all beekeepers! Sorry, but this more than 120 years old Rietsche's metod of honeycomb foundation production is by my opinion slow, expensive and arduous. In Russia tryed to cast foundation with this metod directly into frames, but it is slow, expensive and arduous too. For small beekeepers (<= 200 beehives) is more suitable, quicker and cheaper the modern metod of Marek Woś from Poland, invented 20 years ago. This metod is based on coating of beewax on silicon forms via paint roller with short mohair pile, without using of separator. So no soap, detergent etc. Final foundation is accurate only from one side, and on the other only approximate, but bees it allways reworked on glassine paper thickness, and the removed wax is used on honeycomb walls. It's generaly well-known, that 80% honeycomb is created from foundation wax. So bees accept its willingly. Mark prepare silikon form from red (high temperature) silikon in 310 gram tube, which behind mechanical and thermal characteristics (wax become cold more quickly) allows better watching of wax thickness. Wouldn't it be better to make the entrance hole 8mm rather than 10mm so that you only trap the Asian Hornet and not the European Hornet as once he's in the trap there's no escape for him.
I would have thought the bottom section of the plastic bottle that contains the tin with the bait would have needed a more secure way of holding it on otherwise in a strong wind I could see it coming adrift.
I spent a lot of summer 2019 running from those dang things. We had a hive way up in a hollow spot in a tree not far from our door. They made it very difficult to leave or enter the house after dark. They were like moths, attracted to the smallest sliver of light coming through the shades over the window in the door. I made a trap with a five gallon bucket with about 6 inches of water, NOTHING but water in it with a light placed over the opening. I placed it away from the door so we didn't have to fight to get in and out. It killed about 40 to 50 hornets and rarely a moth or two and nothing else every night for almost two months. No more murder hornets around this year.
Yes there is buying it, but your missing the point of the video, it is a craft, bit like it's easier if I went to IKEA to get a chair than craft one myself. Hence the craft in bee craft magazine 🙄
