Jeez, Bill....you think that's bad? Read the book. They have a scene where it's made pretty clear that Yabu can only get off when he's getting diddled by a girl and a little boy and the guy's in the background getting boiled alive. Wholesome stuff, huh? It's a great book though. Well worth the read and better than either of the adaptations although they're both great in their own way. FWIW.
A person with a PhD is definitely a doctor. A person who is qualified in medicine is a medical doctor. Being annoyed at Dr. Phil for calling himself a doctor is as dumb as saying a General Practitioner isn’t a doctor because they haven’t completed a thesis. I hope Bill never changes.
When communicating to the general public, I think its misleading as "doctor" is a job title tied to the human body and medicine. If someone is experiencing a heart attack and a bystander asks "Is there a doctor here," imagine someone saying, "Why yes...but I have a doctorate in mathematics." Yes, congratulations on your work in isomorphisms, but its not helpful right now.
I think they grazed over the drugs he and his friends were using in the documentary. Probably some psychosis and some personality disorders had a lot to play with this guy.
A having a doctorate makes you a doctor. There are plenty of doctors out there who don’t prescribe drugs and treat the sniffles. Most scientists and physicists are doctors
