With the old high sulfur fuel, I loved the exhaust smell as a kid! I could listen to those 6v71's all day. I must say I'm "green" with envy! That's for showing this wonderful piece of history.
short story: preventing slippery roadways long story: ice on roadways causes vehicle collisions. to reduce this cause, new york puts road salt on the road. the road salt happens to degrade the chassis which causes the vehicle to become unsafe. sometimes the district or company will have the energy to prolong a vehicle's life with maintenance. but most of the time it's already decided through the school budget and a 10 or 12 year replacement plan to have a consistent amount of buses.
This bus is not but we still have a few mini school buses available. Feel free to give us a call at 877-287-7253 or send us an email at sales@busesforsale.com
Beautiful bus in beautiful condition. But there's almost no market for them. Guys like me who collect old Fishbowls look to pay $5000 to $20,000 for them. Certainly this one is worth a premium but who's buying? I'm trying to buy a Fishbowl right now that's been restored from the ground up. We're haggling in the $25,000 range.
The market is certainly small and it's a niche community. This bus is listed for so much because not only is it fully restored but it only has 40,000 original miles on it which is near impossible to find in one of these buses. Who knows if anyone will end up buying it. Once in a while we rent it out for movies in NYC.
My biggest two memories of these buses are just how seriously loud they were and about half of them were running around with their rear engine bay doors flapping around and every time a bus pulled away from a stop the doors would swing open 1 or 2 feet.
Takes me back to my childhood when my grandmother would take me on bus rides into town to shop. When would visit my mom on her lunch break. Back when the port authority of Allegheny County had all fishbowls
I had the pleasure of operating a coach like this in the early 80’s. I worked for a transit agency in Los Angeles county, and was fortunate enough to be able to operate this beautiful coach picking up passengers.
