I set this channel up so my elderly parents could see what I do on our off grid property, for projects. It’s really just turned into a video journal for me to remember as well. The property is at 9,200 feet in the center of the Colorado mountains and covers 40 acres. It 20 miles from the nearest paved road and over 40 miles to the nearest town. I use solar for power, collect rain for our water, and have an amazing composting toilet. I plan on adding additional structures there and someday plan to retire in a full size cabin I will build. I hope you will enjoy the journey and maybe even get an idea or two for this.
Man....such an awesome video and I was just thinking about your channel yesterday morning on the way to work. Some amazing wildlife and scenery and the new cabin is looking great!! Congratulations on the saw and Thank You for sharing your adventures.
Good day Charlie. We love all the wildflowers that you got growing around on the property that's awesome and it's great to have kids up there with you give me another out on the quads. But you got to spend some time with them fighting in the bows and the rifles that's awesome. Glad to see that you bought a scriber for your saddle notches. By the time you're done with this cab in your be a pro. When you're looking for a new chainsaw you can also look at echoes and husqvarna's through 2/3 the price of the Stihl chainsaws and I got a couple of them different sizes and I love them I have a couple big Stihl chainsaws like 881 ,661, and a 441 they're all probably 10-15 years old great for bucking sauce. And the one thing I suggest but it's only in my opinion referral I love swapping out no matter what chainsaw it is I always swap out all my bars to roll a matic bars. Well good luck on your search on your new songs love watching the cam footage of the wildlife and we'll see you on your next video you and your family have a blessed weekend now. From me and Liam
@@timothyalanogrady Thanks for the note! I found a slightly used Husqvarna 440 18” near me for sale, I’ll probably buy. Only has about 30 hours. Deer and elk seasons start on September 2nd so everything is ready to go, just in time. Freezer needs to be filled again! I’ll let how the saw works out.
Hello 👋🤗 again. Lol I like how you show the replacement trees. I was thinking to myself that'd be a nice little area to start a permaculture garden or just a regular garden. Your land has so much potential for so many different things. Have a safe trip home and thanks for sharing again
@@timothyalanogrady I would love to do a garden! There are a couple of issues though, the biggest one is that I’m only there, at the most, every 2 weeks, so watering would be tough. The other is the altitude, the temperature swings are big. The nights are cold and even though the days are about 80 degrees, the intensity of the sun at 9200 feet is crazy. It drys up and burns almost every non indigenous plant. Oh, I’d also have to haul in 100% of the dirt. The land is an ancient volcano with the “soil” having no nutrients. Maybe someday when we live there in retirement. THANKS for continuing to watch!
Good morning buddy to you and the puppies . Nice job on dropping the trees and preparing them. And now you got some nice wood for the winter time. I enjoyed watching the drone footage of you drop into one tree. And this must be one heck of a experience to be in Spain your wife and daughter are experience. Hope you have a great day and have a blessed week
Started watching your channel a few weeks ago. Have gone back and watch most of your videos some more than once. I really have enjoyed them. Hope to see some of your hunting this fall. I made many trips to Colorado bow hunting from Alabama when I was younger. I have a 40 acre farm here that I hunt on. I’m like you always working to improve it
@@rickeyphillips5600 Thanks for watching! My daughter, Stella, who has been in a few videos drew an elk tag this year, so we’ll be spending some time at the cabin together this fall! I have an archery mule deer tag and we both have bear tags. We should fill the freezer this fall! 🙏
Great channel, really enjoyed watching and I love Colorado. However, the comment about our ''Imperious Leader'' implied something negative and RU-vid hears all. Prepare to be demonetized. [[ Only joking, I hope.]]
Great Work!! Looks like some good logs and I hear ya with spruce having knots and not being perfectly straight. Your notches look fantastic and smart move with the bandana. Not only keeping the sun off and sweat out of your eyes but some water dribbled on it from time to time can help keep you cooler. Thank you for sharing your adventures and looking forward to more!!
Found your channel a couple of weeks ago, subscribed and binge watched all the past videos to get caught up - Great Job!! I'm looking to do a similar build/setup on 40 acres in Northern Colorado. I really enjoy you sharing all your adventures and content and looking forward to the next one!!
@@scottgeffre3111 as you know land prices have continued to climb (like everything else) and we were lucky to buy 26 years ago now but it's still vacant. We do have a small creek on it that runs 3 seasons but we're only at about 7800' and looking to put up a small place to get out of the wind and what not. You have a beautiful spot and I'd bet you're higher up especially with those afternoon bursts - been in many of those up around the Walden, CO area at 9500+'. Lots of great content in all your videos and really appreciate you taking us along!!
Hello 👋 great videos of the wild life on the episode. And thanks for sharing. Clean and prepare the property in a cabin for the summer you guys have a great day. Have a blessed week
Just happened upon your channel this evening. I loved seeing the footage of the animals super cool. I live in Northeastern Ontario in Canada. We have black bears here but nowhere near the size of that brown bear. The only cats we have here are Lynx. Can’t wait to binge watch your other videos. Loved the Biden comment 😂.
The wild life has been awesome this year. I left out about 10 more trail cam video in an attempt to keep the episode around 30 minutes. I left out deer, skunk, grouse, and a bunch more bear…. Thanks for watching!
All the wood I burn is from standing dead trees and they also sit in my wood shed to keep it dry. I’ll try the super heating of the pipes and see if it help too!
Bunkhouse for my girls and just to see if I can. If it turns out ok, I’ll build our retirement home there as well. It is 40 acres so I have plenty of room to spread out.
what a great video! these should be getting more view's try your hand at making your titles better! maybe like "Colorado Off Grid Cabin - Logging Day Prepping Cabin Grounds!"
Great felling tips Safety first , One log at a time Bud :) Hard pealing dry trees i feel for ya " awesome pics on your cam's I never worry about bear but cats I'd be careful with, I always have something on my building list too but not log this time, But time to get out & make me some fishing video's :))
I build tree houses as a kid and the existing, stick frame cabin you see, but never a log cabin. My uncle in Montana is a big log cabin builder so I have seen them in all stages of construction, so I have a pretty good idea. I’m sure there will be plenty of mistakes though. I have to try!
Yeah, the trees I have to work with, Limber Pines, aren’t the best to work with. They have a powdery dark brown material under the bark that makes it look like, on video, there is still bark on. I’ll brush that off as I start to build. Plus it didn’t help they were under the snow all winter.
What and how do you charge the batteries when your solar or wind is not charging it with weather. Keep up the great work. Love your cabin. I will be building an off grid this year and you have helped me with many ideas you have done
I have a small 1200 watt generator I use to charge them with. I covered it in a previous video and I’ll try to figure out which one and provide you a link.
Great video Bud ! You have a good start on spring chores, Mothers day weather like we get some years & I'm not in the mountains, I been busy with spring here videoing a little gardening & spring building underway :))
We’ve lived in the mountains more than a decade, but only own the property 4 years. In my 24 years in Colorado, it’s the heaviest and latest I’ve seen it snow like that.
Hi I am from California it's my first time watching you build I really enjoyed everything I'm going to continue to watch and thanks for sharing the video blessings to you 😊 🙏👍
To expand on that, I had similar concerns, but someone pointed out that we use propane ovens in our kitchen and can run them for 6 hours when cooking a turkey and we’re ok. So using that for 2-3 minutes at a time shouldn’t be an issue.
Wow... this reminds of when I lived in Frisco and worked in Breckenridge back in the early 1980s. Snow... and then MORE snow and THEN MORE SNOW and I loved it!
@@scottgeffre3111 I live in Mississippi now. We had somewhere around 10 flakes of snow this year. LOL Way back when I thought I wanted to live at a high elevation in the Rockies but then thought that maybe I really didn't want to live where it might snow on the 4th of July or any other day of the year. I am, however, due a visit back to the central Rockies and a visit Breckenridge and then to visit family south of Grand Junction.
I'll bet the snow is heavy to boot. Where I live, I can often sweep it with a broom if not too deep. The snow is pretty dry and light. Spring snow is much heavier.
Looks like our winter, yep you would not believe it but our winter in the out back of Australia in the mountains it's unbelievable snow ice frozen water pipes not great with rainwater tanks and pumps copper pipe blows out but being a high bush fire area literally off grid copper pipe is the only way, black ice is a daily situation and add the wildlife all over the shop and our wildlife can be very interesting is a polite way to put it snow makes the fauna a little loopy an even more polite way to put it lol. Roos get the joker jumps the goats get the crazy capers the deers get the dizzy dives and the boars get very bothersome.😂😂😂 So from one mount dreaming to another blessings from across the sea. ❤❤❤
