Here's an idea why don't we push this and other Elvis music to make his dream and Dr Martin Luther King Jr's dream come true once and for all cause I feel like they do and that is the world has to change somehow for the better I honestly pray this in Jesus precious name 🙏 as him and Dr. King and myself as well have had this dream since before this 1968 come back special we really need to learn to love each other again 💓 I will start it I love you my brother 💞 and I love everyone here on planet earth cause you are all my brothers and sisters 💞

This was a song of desperation. “Why can’t we have equality and social justice?” And hope for a future that wasn’t as sad as it was to him at the time. This was a Christmas special and he was supposed to sing a happy carol.

This song was so genuinely heartfelt and glorious. I have heard of anyone ever trying to cover this. He was willing to risk his career for our convictions. I have applauded this for years and think it should be replayed on both of their birth and death dates in celebration of what they tried to accomplish. We have gone so far backward in the past couple of years with the media playing the Devil's advocate. Praying their dreams come true. ❤😢❤

I agree with you. Everyone should know The Bee Gees! In my generation (I’m 70), they were known. They were the hottest group in the 70’s. How many groups can you name that (1) started in the 50’s and lasted into the 2,000’s; (2) that wrote the lyrics and music for ALL THEIR SONGS! (3) that wrote so many hits for other artist! I think Barry Gibb is in the top 3 of songwriters who’ve penned the most #1 hits! ….and I could go on and on! They did all this, played instruments, produced and more. One of the stupidest things that ever happened in music was that whole “disco sucks movement “. Remember, we didn’t have RU-vid, VH1, the internet, the computer back in the 70’s, so artists depended primarily on the radio to play your music. So imagine how they must have felt from going from: having 5 of the top 10 records on the chart at the same time to deejays saying “tune in this weekend for a non-Bee Gees weekend!” To radio stations refusing to play your music because of the anti-disco movement, not realizing that The Bee Gees were more than just a disco band! But they got even when radio stations started playing the hits for other artist (not knowing at that time that those hits were written by The Bee Gees). I loved that they, indirectly, got back at those stations who refused to play their songs!!! Little did they know 😂! Anyway…all that to say, to me, they are up there in music history as being on of the greatest bands ever.

Elvis grew up dirt poor in Tupelo, spent a lot of time watching & listening to the street blues artists but he especially loved going into gospel churches to hear the beautiful music. He knows what it was like to grow up in a ghetto, when his mom, dad & Elvis moved to the poor side of town in Memphis. I know when this first came out there was controversy about this song, wondering why he was singing this type of song, I was 19 yrs old & this & If I Can Dream were amazing to me. Sam Cooke & Marvin Gaye had songs like these songs. He was criticized at first & then the world started to really listen to Elvis sing ballads about being poor, being human, being happy to sing gospel ( his favourite music). Elvis truly loved his country & would be very upset at the condition of America. He was a humanitarian in a big way, he never forgot how the black community & churches kept him safe, as a poor little boy, and he always gave money 💰 & his heart 💜

What Chuck D actually says - should anyone bother to ask him or check the facts - is that what he actually disliked was Elvis’ "culture-blurring genius". This is because it happened to play into the hands of a racist music industry that, at the time, was hungry for a white artist who could play black music. Chuck D in fact agrees & says that, "Elvis was a door, a gateway through to the roots. In the beginning of his career Elvis admitted where the roots came from, but did anybody care?" Thanks for keeping an open mind. Elvis was love and fire.
